Default anyone who lives in Denver...

...do you like it? Why or why not? What would you say to someone who was considering moving there? What are the area's pros and cons, in your opinion?

I'm very done with the east coast (have lived there almost all my life) and am definitely moving SOMEWHERE at the end of the year. I've been going back and forth between Denver and San Francisco. On one hand I know way more about SF because I lived there briefly before, and I've never been to Denver in my life. But I get the impression it kind of has a similar social/cultural climate to SF (and is less expensive). And it seems to be a good artsy place for performing-arts dorks like myself. That's one thing that drives me insane about where I am now--a complete lack of real opportunities in that area.

But these are just impressions. And I could be totally wrong. And I also get the impression that Denver is freezing cold. I could visit the city, and probably will, but what I would get is an idea of Denver from a visitor's perspective, which is usually totally different from an "I live here" perspective. If that makes sense. It's like visiting a club as a customer before you audition--you'll get a basic general idea, but things can look totally different when you're on the inside.

And...especially interested in feedback from dancers working in the Denver area. What's the SC scene like there? General contact levels in the (upscale) clubs? How's the money; is it considered a good city to dance in? Are they ridiculously over-saturated with clubs and/or dancers? etc, etc, etc. I will definitely do a search in club chat, but figured it won't hurt to ask here, esp since I'm asking for a general vibe of the whole SC scene in general, as well as the usual "which clubs should I check out in Denver?" things that you'd find in CC.

So basically..if anyone has a few minutes to spill your brains out about all things Denver-related, I would greatly appreciate it and would love you forever.

I just need to make a freaking decision on where to move and actually get on with it; I've been thinking and re-thinking and over-thinking about this for way too long. And of course I'm doing other research for myself too, but hey...SW has been a valuable resource more than once.

I moved to Denver from Honolulu... the cold is nothing here. According to my East Coast friends, the winters here are mild in comparison to NY- something about the lack of moisture makes it more bearable or whatnot. We get a fuck ton of sunny days and heavy snow falls are not the norm.

I like living here... concerts at Red Rocks, pretty views, tons of outdoor activities (really, I'm not into outdoor shit but apparently it's pretty popular), and great micro breweries. The people around here tend to be pretty laid back.

The only real downfalls of this city is the absence of an ocean and any decent Chinese resturants.

Amen to that sister !!! God I miss the ocean... and good Thai food available at 3am.

I don't actually live in Denver but I dance there on the weekends. In general I like the area. I am originally a So Cal girl and now that I live here I have survived the cold just fine.

Every club is Denver is a little different as far as the rules, customers, and $$$. However, keep in mind all but one is owned by the same company so it is important not to burn bridges if you plan to switch clubs at some point.

^^ah yeah...it's the same way in SF. All but one of the clubs I'd consider dancing at are owned by Deja Vu. So if you fuck up at one, it's like you fucked up at all of them. Blech.

Thanks for the info, you three I still haven't entirely made a decision, but I am leaning towards Denver. I figure if I get there and give it a chance and don't like it, SF's only a 24-hour drive away.

Blech...I do not like Boulder. I was born there, but that's about the extent of my ties to it. That and the MAC store, lol. Boulder is full of trustafarians and college kids, two types I don't usually get along with.

I live in Denver and work here too and I'd honestly say it's pretty nice. Yeah, the winters do get rather chilly but the summers are pretty nice. Today it's been about 80 or so, clear skies, and a little on the breezy side. I've been out running errands which is fairly easy since my life more or less revolves around the areas of Downtown and LoDo...despite the fact that I live about 3 miles east of Downtown itself. But my neighborhood is a trillion times prettier than downtown and also about half the price, so I am happy to hop the bus or my bike to run errands.

The music scene here is pretty awesome in my eyes. I'm pretty inexperianced when it comes to clubs (I've heard Beta is mindblowing though) but for live concerts, Denver kills. Last summer saw an explosion in the nu-electro scene centered at the Marquis Theatre and so now I'm going to a tour farewell show every other week and watching all the local bands get big. Breathe Carolina just signed with Rise Records a couple of weeks back, The Photo Atlas just got home from touring, The Chain Gang Of 1974 just left on tour and Matt & Isom are leaving next week. That particular end of the scene is INSANE.

And as was mentioned above...Red Rocks kicks ass like no other. I went to the True Colours tour last summer and the memories of watching Erasure perform as all the lights of Denver started coming on and twinlking in the twilight beyond the stage will forever be with me.
