I'm the opposite!! Since I'm already a little embarrassed, anyway, I just march right up to the check-out counter with a huge grin on my face and make my purchase. YI meds, tampons, condoms, whatever kind of personal items, it's always the same goofy grin on my face.

Do you have anywhere near you that has self checkout? You can always do it that way to avoid embarassment.

i figure once i grow older i wont give a shit what people think about me...but for now.... =/
i called my mom and begged her to buy it for me. she says, "if you're old enough to be sexually ACTIVE (hate that word) then you're old enough to buy those products yourself!"

The self checkout at Fry's/ Kroger's or Walmart doesn't blare out the product name.

I'm so prone to YIs that I have no shame anymore Just walk up with my single box of Monistat. But I used to be embarrassed and bought other things to hide it like you did.

me too. huge stupid grin. i have to hold back laughing and everything.

try to see the humor in the situation. and if it really bothers you, go to a place you'll probably never go again.

when i had to get plan b, i went to a cvs i had never been to. i felt to embarrassed about caring.

Honestly NO ONE at the store cares what you're buying. I used to work at one and I bagged more condoms, laxatives, tampons, anti-shit meds, summers eve...we don't care.

Remember they're only getting paid like 7 bucks an hour...thats not enough to care, ahah.

Actually if I didn't have to pay attention to things like not putting clorox with the meat or baby food, I'd never even notice.

I used to be embarrassed buying condoms because everyone new me and my BF worked there too and half the time my friends didn't even notice, and trust me they love to make fun of me, they'd of went crazy over it.

Almost everyone's had a yeast infection, or at least know what they are, and that they're not a big deal. No need to be embarrassed. You're just taking care of your body. Maybe go with a girlfriend if it really embarrasses you?

do not make me go on the yogurt rant again.

    cheap
    painless
    not weird to buy
    works

and i was DEAD SET against ever trying it. i thought it was total hippie bullshit. however, having had SEVERE burning from using monistat (like the crying, shaking, thought i was dying kind) ... i was willing to give it a try.

    and it works.

    for reals.

    look it up.

I just bought some Monistat from Safeway at about 2:00 am the other night. The guy in front of me was trying to flirt as the big white box with MONISTAT in that conspicuous black font crept up to him on the conveyor belt. Nice.

Also, over-the-counter stuff fails. I wish I could get that $20 back, because it didn't work. I just went to PP and they gave me real drugs.

Over the last few days I'd eaten lots of probiotics and even put some acidophilus up my hoo-ha. Coupled with the cooler weather, I felt normal today, but went to the Dr's anyway. Good thing I did. I had a yeast infection AND bacterial vaginosis, probably from working at one particularly scuzzy club. There really aren't any OTC treatments for BV, and many women mistake it for a yeast infection.

Probiotics are good for you, but they only work just enough to make you feel better. Ever notice how all the women on natural/home remedy sites swear by yogurt - but get infections constantly? Same with the OTC stuff.. it really just makes you feel relief, but the yeast is still running rampant in your digestive tract.

I learned my lesson. See a real doctor! A $25 co-payment is a small price to pay, and if you don't have insurance, Planned Parenthood can hook you up with cheap services. We're lucky enough to live in a world with sanitation and vaccinations that keep us from seeing the ravages of disease on a daily basis.. but it makes it so easy to take Western medicine and science for granted.

I never get embarrased but i get annoyed when the checkout people comment on my items. Seriously, you don't know if i wanna be pregnant or not so when I buy a prenancy test don't congratulate me and ask if i want it. Even when it's regular stuff. Lately when i go buy groceries I am literally out of everything and the same lady always says "oh, my goood!" when my she reads my bill total to me. Keep your opinions to yourself!

    That's not always true.

I swear by herbal/natural/home remedies WELL before medicine for most things, especially for a yeast infection.

I only get them from 2 different antibiotics and my GP knows that, and he doesn't prescribe those to me anymore. I haven't had a YI in YEARS, and if I get another one, I will totally use garlic, or yogurt or TTO, before YI meds.

The only thing I use for monistat is for growning hair on your scalp.

I've never been embarassed to buy that stuff, but luckily I haven't needed it for a while.

A while ago I dated a doctor and had a yeast infection. I asked him to buy me some stuff at the store. He came back with not only yeast infection stuff, but also a bottle of the nastiest shampoo I've ever smelled (I had asked for shampoo), and some Astroglide and some other various strange crap. I guess I shoudl add that we'd been drinking before he went in there!

Oh...you girls have it easy. I'm not embarrased to buy stuff like that, but at my Walgreens, they keep the yeast infection creams and pregnancy tests locked up! Don't ask why. It's not like I live in a yeasty crime-ridden neighborhood.
So first you have to track down a sales person, tell her what you need (uhh...that box there. no, that one....Do I want extra strength? Why do you say that? oh you have a coupon for that this week? How nice). More likely then not, she doesn't have the right key, so soon you hear over the store intercom "ASSISTANCE IN AISLE TWO. ASSISTENCE NEEDED IN FEMININE HYGENE!"

    Awesome

I've never had to buy YI things but I used to be that way for pads. Especially if the clerk was a (cute) man. But recently I only bought a package of pads and a container of foot powder and I just stood and grinned through it. It felt, uh, vaguely liberating.

I used to feel uncomfortable buying them then I started to get them really often. I get YI so many times that I have no shame buying more than 1 box at a time. I don't care about being embarrassed nearly as much as I care about starting to feel better!

Remember that yeast feeds on sugar so if you cut out all sugar in your diet for a few days, it'll help speed up the healing process

LOL. I had to buy some Vagisil yesterday! I'm never shy so I put the box on the counter in full view and waited to be checked out. It was the clerk who hurriedly rang it up and threw it in the bag. I love Walmart!
