    Default Extras on TV/Movie Sets

So there are sites like ModelMayhem and OMP for models, but are there any sites that show opportunities for extras in movies/tv?

There are extras casting agencies all over the place. What city are you in? Google "extras casting" or "background actors" and your city, and it should give you an agency.

Don't expect to make mad money or have an amazing time being in the movie though. It's a lot of sitting around reading or whatever you brought to do, and the rate is $54 for an 8-hour day if you're not a SAG member.

^ up here, if you have 'special talents' (ie stripper, drag queen, acrobat, fire eater, whatever), you get a much better pay rate...I beleive it's $22/hr for the first 8, $44/hr until 12, and $88/hr thereafter. It's excluded from union stuff.

Yeah, special talents do get better rates, but we don't do hourly pay rate in the USA. Extras rates are based on an 8-hour day, for example, nudity gets you $300 for 8. You can get bumps for things like using your own props and wardrobe too, just be sure to negotiate it ahead of time.

From my experience extras don't make that much money unless you have a special talent or your doing nudity. And even then . . . it all depends on if you're union or not. I know lots of extras in Canada that work for less than $10 an hour and they treat you like cattle. I've found it wasn't worth my time.

So are the companies that say they will pay $250 a day for being an extra in a movie scams? Im assuming yes

^^^ Not if you're doing nudity. But usually the smaller shady extras casting agencies advertise "up to" $300 a day, which is the nudity rate. A regular old non-union extra gets $54 for eight hours.
