Lifelock, does anyone have it?
Lifelock.com
protects you from identity theft. I was interested in getting it,because
I don't want some scumbucket stealing my identity.
If you have it what do you think about it?
Is it the most effective service for preventing identity theft?

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
My own parents stole my identity a few years ago, so when I went to get my name cleared, I just had the credit agencies set up some kind of system. I forget what it's called, but for the next 7 years, any time any applications in my name and ssn are submitted for anything, I get a call on my cell phone before anything is even considered. And it's free.
Loans will take longer to process, because I have to wait for the bureaus to call me, but it's worth it IMO.

^^^omg, your parents?
fuuuuuck, that sucks.
sorry I don't have anything to add. I hate services that prey on people's fear, but sometimes they are valuable.

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
a lot of premium credit cards / bank accounts actually offer the vast majority of LifeLock's protections for 'free'.
In general, LifeLock is watching for unauthorized financial references to your SS# / credit lines. Also in general, people whose credit ratings are under 700 and whose credit lines are in the 4 figures are NOT the targets, since the potential gains are small compared to the potential risk for the identity thief.

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
I signed up in december, and just received a notice that I've been cancelled. I've been charged the whole time, but I haven't been protected. in a nutshell, they typed in my info incorrectly and it took them 6 months to notify me. I'm in the process of filing a formal complaint & getting a refund.they seem like they don't have they're s together, and they deal with very sensitive info--BAD COMBO! I'd stay away

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
Lifelock was the perfect subterfuge if you think about it. Sort of like those Blue Hippo "you deserve a free laptop" radio ads and all those "credit counseling" outfits advertising on the radio at 2 AM. People tend to be less than skeptical when they're desperate.

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
We have something like lifelock on our kids Social Security numbers. My friend's little brother turned 18 and went to get a loan for school and found out that he had 5 credit cards in collection going back 5 years.
As an adult, I'm not as concerned because I constantly check. But one of the new things is ripping off the SS# of little kids because it will be YEARS before they ever apply for credit, etc.

Re: Lifelock, does anyone have it?
My cousin went with his dad to get a car loan a couple months ago and had an entire credit profile and a 750 credit score. Hes 18. They think he has the same SS and name (different b-day) of another person....
What a mess...
