This is my bone stock Mustang; it did the 1/4 in 14.258 @ 100 MPH with the standard snow tires running regular gas.

It is hot but the Camaro SS is a bit much for it. I raced one at the track last Friday and in my best I lost by .5 a second and my reaction time was .6 better.
376 cu in and 426 HP is too much for 281 cu in and 300 HP; his standard tires put more rubber on the track too. The cold war has started; with bolt-ons and a 93 octane tune I think I can keep up as the Camaro is 300 pounds heavier.
If that doesn't work I will have to go nuclear with 500 forced air HP; we must save the Mustangs.![]()

I'm not trying to bash here . But every drag strip event I've been to the GT500's kept doing 12.8 to 13 sec 1/4 mile times. There was one GT500 that did 12.6 with slicks. That not too impressive for a 500hp car with a fixed rear axel. If it was up to me I would get a slightly used 06-07 Z06 for around $50k or less and do 11 sec 1/4 mile times all day long.

I did not want to pay $80,000 for a $50,000 sticker car; the dealer took $24,000 in January for my GT. The Camaro SS is not in the same class as the 500; if GM ever brings out the Z28 they will be able to compete with the 500.
Well hell if GM brings out the Z28 I'll have to get one of these; 800 HP Shelby Prudhomme Super Snake. OK for Friday street legal night.
.

silk- Agree with you about Z06. Slightly used 06-07 ZO6?? That could be a laughable concept. I bought a slightly used C5 Z06 a few yrs. ago- had to replace xmission after 18 mos of ownership. Fortunately, car was still under warranty.
ETP- When were you looking? By summer '08, many midwestern dealers had ADP down to $10K, after market meltdown, no ADP, a few dealers were going 2K off sticker on the web.
But, yeah, anti over sticker here. Recently, I saw SoCal dealer with $50K markup on ZR1 (09)at a time when many are selling @ sticker.
I'm right 96% of the time.I don't sweat
the other 5% .......................

I would not buy a 500 it is not a well balanced car and I'm not a big fan of forced induction. Ford limits production to what they think collectors will buy. I did look at a Shelby GT but that also was overpriced for what one got $35,000 plus a $1,000 gas guzzler tax.
I actually bought my GT on a whim. I was finished with child support and had $750 tax free extra dollars a month. This January Ford took $3,500 off the sticker and there was a $500 rebate. I wrote $24,000 on a piece of paper and walked into the dealer and handed it to a sales man. I said if you want to sell the car give me a call. He never blinked and sold me the car on the spot; perhaps I paid too much.
It is a great car but I can’t stand getting beat by a Camaro SS.

The 500 weighs two tons with a driver. One can't go by what one sees at the track as driver ability and track conditions have much to do with it. Also if it is a hot day and a high altitude that will bring down the HP.
2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 11.5 (MT Oct '05)
2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 11.8 (MT Oct '07 Vol. 59, NO. 10)
To get these times it would have to be 65 degrees at sea level. They apply a SAE correction factor to their times to compensate for temperature and air density differences. Edmons accuses MT of using an old SAE formula that subtracts .3 from the new SAE standard.
The Z06 I've seen run mid 12s in real life and they don't sound stock. That said a Corvette and Mustang are not in the same class. The 2005 Ford GT does the ¼ in 11.78.
Now if you want fast and cheap get a old ricer and supercharge it but then we are no longer talking stock.

Here's mine:

This will not be permitted to race on Friday Street Legal Night. It is a pity that his camera had a low battery so we don't know how fast that new 6.2L engine 4.0175 bore X 3.75 Stroke= 379 inches runs. Its a secret, so dont tell anyone!!
The 2011 GT is rumored to have this engine; Camaro SS I'll be looking for you.

Injection is nice but I would rather be blown.

That is a sexy GSR. My boyfriend is a honda man.
Earl, while I'm impressed your mustang ran a low 14, bone stock,I am even more impressed that my ex boyfriend's 1992 Eagle Talon TSi (AWD, turbo) ran a low 12 (with two passengers--me being one of them), bone stock. No drag slicks, just normal street tires. Norwalk, OH... I'm there once a year for the DSM shootout.
Final weight: 2,700 pounds + passengers
(They are officially supposed to run a 14.4 @ 96 MPH with 190 HP).
Power maxes out at about 6k, but the engine can run up to 7k.
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.
