Default waking up every two hours at night

I don't know if it's my meds (Effexor) or not but I wake up every couple of hours at night. I go to bed around 10pm, wake up between 12am and 2am, go back to sleep around 2am, wake up again at 4am, go back to sleep like 30 min later then wake up finally when the alarm goes off at 6am.

The only time this doesn't happen is if I am exhausted or sick. I have tried antihistamines but they don't keep me asleep. Ambien makes me hallucinate. And I can't function properly the next day if I take benzos. I don't drink cow's milk so the milk thing isn't an option for me.

    Suggestions?

    Are you experiencing night sweats?

^Yes, sometimes but when I have them I am typically cold and will have chills as well. But I am cold natured. We keep the temperature around 73 and it's usually pretty comfortable though. But I don't sleep the complete night through most nights and it actually seems like when I sweat I sleep better. I find that I sweat more when I am exhausted or sick.

If it's been going on more than a week, or it's affecting your focus (you're in school, right) call your doctor. Insomnia is one of the possible side effects.

Are you well controlled on it? I was on it for a while, but the side effects were so bad I had to switch to something else. It's too bad, because it really helped me. I don't know much about sleeping pills. Maybe ask about Lunesta.

Yeah, I'm in school but it's mostly practical work at this point. I do need to get something to help me stay asleep though. Getting off Effexor probably isn't an option for me right now.

I'm having the same problem, I just started on Zoloft but I was having the same problem even before I started taking it. It's gotten a bit better with the meds actually. I think it was due to all the stress and anxiety I was having. I'm still stressed but not nearly as anxious but I still don't remember the last time I went to bed and slept the whole night through.

I know this isn't the best habit, but I've been drinking a glass or two of wine before going to bed. I try to go to bed just buzzed enough to be really sleepy and it helps and I don't feel it in the morning either. I generally only wake up once a night and it's usually pretty easy to fall back asleep. Good luck, I know how much of a pain in the ass it is!
