    Default COLETTE!!! :D I'm buying a MOTORCYCLE!

Hihihihihi! Colette you'll be so proud of me. I'm buying a motorcycle. I'm too scared to ride a Ducati first go. I was going to go with a light Honda CRR...but I decided I wanted something slightly more powerful but less than a Ducati.

    I picked a 1999 Honda Fireblade. 4.5k, 20k km, NEON FUCKING PINK!

    Whatchoo think?

I'm getting full cat suit leathers with spinal armour as well. <3

    Did I pick well?

I wanted a sportsbike that I could upgrade to Italian when I was ready. <3

Alsoalsoalso, you should be a psychic. You totally told me like a year ago I'd love the Hondas. I didn't think I would... but they're so light and sporty and classic and easy.

FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! WOOOOOOOOT!!!!!! I am so proud of you!!!!! Fireblades are cool, too!!!!

Handles well, parts'll be super-easy to find, big tank for awesome mileage, great powerband, nimble & fun .... heheh lemme post some pics for ya!! and YAY on the leathers!! what kind of suit??? I could see you in a Dainese Yu....

(btw... HOW did you find a pink bike, you lucky thing????!!!)

solid price for the mileage/year, btw... do you know what condition it's in? dropped/stunted/raced before?? (these are all important questions) and since test-riding a bike before paying for it is usually not a good idea, can the owner give you a ride on the back to get a feel for it (and listen for mechanical stuff? like goblins in the exhaust? )

oh... how many cc's??? the fireblade (much like the related/better known CBR) is a great machine, but it does have a higher powerband than many of the classic 'beginner' bikes (and much more power, period) so I would just be careful.... honestly i wouldn't get more than a 600 to start out.... (it'll be smaller, too, unless yours has a lowering link installed)

^^ hmm... (tries to find more info quickly) i guess i was unaware 'fireblade' only pertained to 900+ cc machines...

honestly?? i'd stick w/ your idea, but continue your search for just a bit. That's a great machine, but IMO, way too much power for a new rider. It's also not a small bike... If I were you, I'd look at a Honda F4i (600cc, but basically the same thing) instead... or a Yamaha TDM.... a Euro model that americans have a hard time getting but i'm guessing you'd have in australia.

    lemme find some comparison IMG's....

Yeah.... right now what you're looking at is like this.... Fireblades are 900+ cc's... (900, 929, 918, 954, 1000)... not my first choice for a n00b rider.

^^^ 1998, 900cc. (they don't look very different between model years... it's really all the same.)
it's fairly big in person... and you'd be pretty hunched over the tank, as the thing's a horse.

    here's the 918:

    the 929:

color schemes are all variable, btw

    The 954

and the 1000, which is a cbr (not quite sure of the distinctions- fireblade/cbr... if it's only a certain displacement or what... shows you how much i know about hondas)
This is nicky hayden's famous repsol honda...

NOW.... let me post some pics of what i'd rather you get, simply due it not being a fat pig and having a smaller displacement.

The f4i is an awesome bike, popular beginner bike, but still REALLY torquey, and it'll have the power when you want it... also easy to find parts, customize, and you won't get bored on this thing (it's just not a horse... you really don't want to start out w/ something bigger than you're prepared to handle... shoot, I would never get an old-school 900rr... too bulky for me. You & I are about the same size... you need something sleeker.)

(these are all 600cc F4i's, a few different model years but obviously the bike hasn't changed much)

see? very much along the same lines... just... not a hog.

hehehe and I can't help it.... If you can find one @ a good price/condition, shoot, don't rule out Monsters!!!! (I'm on my 2nd and the think is a WORKHOrse.... and so much freakin' fun!!!!!)

I only suggest a Ducati Monster (either 600, 620, 696 cc to begin with) because the seat height is perfect, it's FUN as shit, the powerband is perfect for a new rider but it still has enough upper-end torque that it you can grow WITH it & not be bored like on a 250 or something, it's sleek and gorgeous, and you can find an older monster, like 99-2000 for around the same price as what you're looking at now.)
also... for a first bike you will WANT TO TOUCH THE GROUND. FLAT-FOOTED. it makes a big difference in rider confidence.

so, let me post up a monster or two... (this one obviously has an after-market exhaust & windscreen removed, like mine.... they are really easy to customize & play around with)
    here's a 600

    and a 620

Between a Monster and an f4i, a monster actually has a lower powerband (i.e. it only goes 0-20 in first gear, as opposed to 0-40, which your Fireblade DEFINItely does... can be a little scary for a new rider. that's why you see so many n00b 1st gear sportbike crashes on youtube. LOL.) Just because it's a Ducati doesn't mean much... the Monsters are quite different than the Superbikes (advanced rider-type machine) - cost less, easier to ride, and also the SEAT position is much more agreeable.

"ducati" does not necessarily equal superbike...
fack, even i'd be scared to ride this... i'd be ready, at this point, but drop it and you're looking at your entire savings down the drain. Yikes! monsters are much more easy to maintain... & less $$$.

haha and there is my pictorial-tutorial... wow, i kinda went nuts on that. oh well. i'm just sooOOOooOOOOO proud of you!!!!!!!! and excited!!!!!

damn, i need to go wash my dirty-ass bike now after looking at all these clean things.

OOhh.... also.... no matter what you get.... INVEST IN FRAME AND FORK SLIDERS!!! seriously... as a new rider especially. You will drop your bike. It sucks, but every new rider does. When you do, you want to minimize damage... frame sliders protect the frame/clutch/plastics and protect your investment... they save you a shitload of money. Fork sliders- same thing.

    <--- frame slider

(Naked bikes, like monsters -- naked refers to lack of plastics-- are also GREAT n00b bikes as you don't have to worry about plastic damage if you drop it!!! or cutting plastics when installing frame sliders.) i <3 naked bikes.

    fork sliders:

ok, one more post, then i'll shaddup...

Leathers- I recommend the Spidi Lizard, the Alpinestars Stella 'Julie,' or the Dainese Yu... all crash-tested by myself or personal friends.

Dainese Lady Yu: (this'll be the most expensive one... but for those who rock dainese, i hear it's worth it...)

A* Stella Julie: (crash tested twice by yours truly... much less $$ than the dainese but an OUTSTANding suit, looks great and really fucking comfy- mine is in black)

lastly, the Spidi Lizard: (great reviews on this, too- comes in white, red, and sky blue):

christ i need to stop posting. ok- two other recommendations... along the lines of a middleweight, good-for-beginner-but-won't-grow-sick-of-it bike are 2 others definitely worth mentioning... the Triumph Street Triple (not the speed triple, but the Street triple... ) and the Suzuki SV650. The SV, in particular, is exTREMELY popular, very reliable, and will take care of you.

These are both great naked bikes. The street triple is pretty new, but it's a good machine... might be a little more $$ than an SV (esp. because you can find a nice older SV) but I thought I'd mention it. Also, the powerband on the SV will be more manageable than the Hondas... more akin to the monster. (my best friend & an editor for a moto-mag calls his track-bike SV the 'poor man's monster...' which means it's a great beginner's bike... if you drop it, you won't pay out the nose & it's easy to repair.... plus maintenance is less $$ than a Duc.)

Triumph Street Triple: (i LOoooOOOve the dual headlights... i got an aftermarket set for my monster instead of the ugly-ass mono-headlight and it looks like a triumph from the front now)

    Suzuki SV650: (with fairing)

    and naked (most are):

    Umum... I know it's less than 600 because I can't legally drive those yet. I need a special license once I go to 600+.... so I think it's 450? I kinda forget. I suck. :/

My leathers are being custom mmade by a local specialist.

I got it in pink cuzcuzcuz the shop changes the colour for free

Andandand I totally checked all parts. No scratches. It's just nbot driven much.

    AHAHAHAHA LadyJade Awesome!

    And omg colette!!

I just realized... I'm getting the CRR which is 450 and the Fireblade is what I'm upgrading to AFTER...still hot pink and the trade in a year (when I have the 600+ license and the experience) for only a thousand less than I bought it, so the difference will be like 2 grand. I'm so stupid. Hahaha. I forgot that I -wanted- a fireblade really really bad and the Honda people started going, Heyyea....no....

I'm still shopping so it might not be my final one. But I start lessons in two weeks and am saving up right now... so it's definitely for sure.

I love that feeling on the turns man... I felt it once and went...BIKE I NEED BIKE.

    I'm so confuzzled... ummm... a cr 450 (i don't believe a CRR exists in 450cc) is a dirty-bike.

(i also think that once you start riding your fireblade dreams will change a bit... seriously, the thing is a BEASt.... )

I am confuzzled too. I left the brochure in the hotel and my memory is hazy. All I remember is you need a special license for 600+ so I'm getting a CRR sports bike of a lower CC. SORRY!

hhahah ... ok....first of all... CRR=nonexistant. CR=dirtbike. CB=cafe, vintage style. the only things that come in a 450 are an old-school cafe-looking thing, (cb450) or a cr450, the durrrrtybike. i would call honda. ask year, model, and displacement.

do you have to go through Honda?? Is there any way you could start off w/ either a GS500(suzuki) or an EX500(what mily used to have- kawasaki)? both awesome beginner sportbikes, 500cc so you won't need your specialty permit.... and you can always 'upgrade' later if you feel it's truly necessary.

I know it's exciting to want something NOW, but the more research you can put into it, the better. I'd definitely look for a ninja 500 (the ex500) or a gs500.... solid little rides.

Honestly, honda doesn't make anything really worthwhile (sportbike-wise) under 600cc... the cb450 is AWESOME but they stopped making those in '74.... only someone with lots of riding experiece, mechanical know-how & a garage full of tools should get a 30 yr old machine.

AWESOMES! A pink bike will be pretty, pretty pretty!

I've been thinking about finally getting my M1. I've wanted to do it for years and years. I've ridden a few dirt bikes but thats it. The guy I'm seeing bought a Ducati a year ago and has never gotten his M1 so I was thinking we could work on it together this summer. If not well....I'm gonna do it myself!

I'm lookin at maybe buying me a baby bike though to start out on.

    EX500-

    GS500-

honestly, if you can't get 600cc (and there's really no big whoop about big displacement, esp. for a n00b rider) then I'd go w/ a make other than HonDuh.

Girrrrrrrl..... OMG you BETTER call me!!!!! the new Ninja250 'R' model just came out.... those things are BADASS!!!! a bunch of my friends bought them as trackbikes because they're just so ridiculously fun, and look the exact same as the larger displacement bikes. AHHH You could come riding with me!!!!! WOOoooooooOT!!!!!

btw- the guy has a Duc and no license??? ack! that's... uhh... a very pricey fine there!! *cough* SQUID *cough* it's best to take the MSF course for your m1 and then get a bike... they put you on 250's that are easier to maneuver than taking your own bigger bike around the DMV course. Plus you get a percentage off insurance for doing the MSF.

I was planning on taking the course since I really have no idea wtf I'm doing. Heh, I've had the link bookmarked on my computer for a few years now. I live at the base of a big canyon and I'm always jealous of hearing all the bikes, guess it finally got to me!

Hes never ridden his Duc or learned to ride. A friend was selling his bike fairly cheaply and I guess he always wanted to learn so he bought it, and it sits garaged. Its totally lame! I'm sure he'd let me ride it but I is chicken of big bikes. I haven't seen it but I'm assuming....yikes....that its huge.

Give me a *cough* loooong *cough* while and we will totally go riding!

hahaa before i got my monster 750 (the one i totalled on someone's leftover DUI coolant slick) I had a ninja 500 for a few months... i took it around the block a few times... kept dropping the clutch over and over... this was when i first moved out to CA and didn't have a car, and thought a bike would be a better idea. yeah... uhh... not so much. i didn't know anyone to help teach me, no resources/way of getting to know th moto community, nothing... i shipped her back to NY to my dad to learn on, and he helped me out w/ a car. THEn i signed up for the MSF course, got my license, started dancing & bought my duc. i bet there's more than a few ashamed moto owners who are skeered to ride 'em. some parking lot practices are always good ideas. when i started riding on the streets, i practiced all my routes at 3 am... it was a really good idea- still enough people out in case something happened, but i got a good feel for the bike, throttle/braking, stoplights, taking turns, what to look for in the road, how to trigger lights, etc... and i jumped the fear of riding @ night. definitely go for it!!! honestly- being a woman on a bike is (i think) one of the greatest feminist statements you can make. It defies so many conventions. And being able to wave to little girls in cars who get SOOOOOO excited when they realize you're female... it's the best feeling in the world.
