    Default Acrylic Nail Wearers

When do you change the acrylic...as in take off the whole layer of acrylic top and start new? Do you ever?

My mom is saying that her nail woman makes her do it, and I told her to just tell her no b/c it seems like she's trying to get more money. I know that stuff can get trapped under the acrylic (like water) and cause infection, but if the nail people clip off loose acrylic each time you get a fill-in, that shouldn't be a problem, right? I haven't had any nail person suggest that I get new acrylic...

I get new every 4-6 months or so.

It's nice to start new. Not only do you make sure it's dry under there (you can grow mold - not an infection) but it keeps them from getting too thick too.

I do it, but more just cause I have a bad habit of biting at it and then it all comes off.
It's ok, though, I like very very short french tips, and I can't keep them for too long before they get long and I have to file them down and they look weird.

I always get new acrylics, never fills... so about every 3 weeks for me.

I know some woman that have had them on for up to a year, I just can't fathom that. I'm a mom to a three year old so by the 2nd or 3rd week, they're not looking very fresh or appealing. =)

Plus I'm an outdorsy type chick, so I like to have a week or so with just my naturals.

I'll get new ones on every year or something... They seem to look nicer when they're fresh, I just put it off because it huuuuurrrrtttssss. The back of the tips look cleaner and whiter and the fronts show less evidence of fill lines.

WTF? Seriously? You have your whole set of acrylics ripped off and replaced every 3 weeks? Are you sure you aren't using press on nails?

If they look crappy after 3 weeks, get a fill. They'll look fine.

What kind of nail tech are you going to?

i never take mine off. there really isn't a point because your nails grow....so its not like you have year old acrylic on your nails. i always get them filled and filed down....and my nail lady does a great job, so i never see fill lines. they always look brand spanking new

Lol, I'm pretty sure they aren't press ons. That'd be pretty sad that I pay that much for those, lol.

Well, I don't get the "ripped" off, (that sounds so painful.) I usually soak them, or if a nail is already starting to lift.... then the nail tech usually takes them off, & she does it so I feel no pain.

I'm on 2nd week of this set now, & so far I have no lifting or braks, so perhaps, after all this inspiration I will get a fill instead of a whole new set.

I don't really know how fills work tho? I mean, I have white tips & pink acrylic, but I like my tips down low... so how do they "fix" that if they're all grown out???

^they should just drill your nail down thin enough to do another white tip on top of your old ones then fill in your pink. I get my white low, too.

There is NO reason to get your nails ripped off everytime! OMG I'm cringing just thinking about it! If your nail tech insists on it, go to another salon!

I generally soak off my old set when it looks like I need to. Typically that's around 3-4 months, but if you get regular fills and the nail bed looks healthy, I've seen people leave their set on alot longer.

If your nail tech tells you that you need a new set, ask her why? Maybe your mom really does need a new set. It's not terribly more than what a fill would cost, big deal.

Not one person I know responds to acrylic the same way. Some people need more maintenance to their nails than others, while some people can get by for a whole month without needing a fill, it all depends...
