Why is it when I d/l songs from limewire, the songs have waaaayy to much bass ? I was told it was because I may be downloading from a faster source. That makes no sense to me.

The files shouldn't pick up any extra bass just from being downloaded... I mean, unless its being re-encoded along the way, the mp3 should sound the way it was originally created.. and if the ripper didn't know what he/she was doing, it'll sound like crap.
I usually use Nero Waveditor (bundled with the burner).. every once in a blue moon I'll have to pull back the bass a little.. I hate that awful sound when a speaker can't handle it.. More often the files are too low or too tinny, so I'll have to add some volume or bass back in.

I have the reverse problem. I got ahold of a couple of limewired tracks that are retardedly un-bassy. Unfortunately, the lack of bass has reduced them from epic to epic fail.
How do I crank it, yo?
I have Wavepad if anybody knows the specifics on how to do it there.

Do you have a registered copy of wavepad or a free version ?

Totally stolen version, lol. I assume it's the freebie cause it keeps bugging me to buy it whenever I open it, lol.

Usually if I'm looking to add bass back in, I'll use the "equalizer".. just basically fiddling around with the levels until I like it.. and then doing a "save as" something else so I have still have the original..
I ain't a big fan of Wavepad's equalizer tho..
Other proggies have plugins called "Bass Boost" that'll do it pretty much automatically. In fact, I think WinAmp (still probably the best player) has that plugin and I think you can save the modified mp3 without having to get into any editors..

I like WinAmp. I used to listen to WinAmp radio, long before I heard of pandora or last fm. Though those are more social groups.
