    Default Help! Memorization...

I'm looking for a part time job to do while I'm in school. A new restaurant is looking for delivery drivers, and since their delivery area is small and I liked the job when I delivered at another rstaurant, I decided to apply.

They liked me, that's not the problem. The problem is the driver are also required to know the whole menu by memory (they want fast service). I was given their menu of 16 sandwiches and told that next Thursday I have to come in and write it all out from memory only on a piece of paper. If I do it, I can start work. If not, I'm fucked and must look somewhere else (which is tough right now).

So. I need to memorize 16 different sandwiches and their ingredients, as well as 'combo' number. I need to be able to make something right away if a custy says "I want a number 8" without looking up at the menu. I must know what it is and what's in it.

My god. Let's not get started on the memorization I have to do for my Bio class, now I have this to memorize in a week. Plus 2 quizzes at LEAST next week for school. I want to be optimistic though so.....and guys/girls have any memorization tips/ tricks?

I'm a visual memorizer-so I tend to memorize things as seen on a 'mind screen'- I visualize writing them down. I've also had good luck with reading out loud with others.

Only problem I might have with acronyms is that I'd have to make 16 of them and might not remember that many?

maybe flashcards? Guess i could think of it as 16 different word definitions....

idk, maybe the problem that could arise with flashcards, is that is you shuffle them into a different order, you might not remember the appropriate #/menu item.

Personally, I would just read it every chance you can.

When I was taking Japanese classes, my classmate told me she put all the basic kana (alphabet) on the walls of the bathroom....every single time she went to the bathroom, it was there. Every time she washed her face, it was there. She ACED all of our writing tests and I was goint to use her idea as well, but I stopped taking the class.

Write it down. over and over. in the same order. Shorten it.
So like, bacon lettuce tomato club write BLT - B, L, T. #8
    Turkey burger- TB T,C(cheese),M(mayo) #7

Just keep writing it over and over. When you get there to take the test, you'll remember everything, just remember to write it out sinc eyou memorized the shortened versions.

If it were me, I would totally make flashcards. Start with just the name of the sandwich on the front and the ingredients and combo number on the back, then when you are fairly proficient with that, have just the combo number on the front and everything else on the back.

Get your bf or a friend to help you.

I had to do this with menu items once too, except without the combo numbers.

Thanks for all the great advice. Definitely checking out that website and buying flashcards (I need them for Bio anyways)

You could use colored index cards. Use yellow ones for all the sandwiches with turkey, pink for sandwiches with ham etc. Good luck!

what kind of learner are you? I learn by listening best, so for me, making up a song to go along with the sandwiches would be my best bet.

If you are a visual learner making picture associations would be best, as in Hero Sandwich=Photo of superman. Then make a little story based on the pictures that you associate with the names. Play that story back in your mind like watching a movie.

If you are a kinesthetic learner (learn best through body movements), creating a sign language for each sandwich would work, then turn it into a routine (like a cheer).

Another thing you can do is group the sandwiches in 3-4 categories. Then if you remember the category it is easier to remember the individual sandwiches (Vegetarian, focaccia, gourmet, wraps). You could make flash cards from the sandwich category and write the names on the back.

Okay, you just made me think about my math test tomorrow. Gotta go!

This reminds me of my highschool job. I still remember the entire menu, down to the oz of meat in every sandwich and there were like 60 of em. I would learn one sandwich and once i got it move to the next . After learning the 2nd one I would write down both of them starting with 1. Then move on to 3 until i had it and again write down starting with one, then two and three. Continue to do that and you won't be able to forget them. But don't move onuntil you have it for a fact, just one at a time.
