The elderly are so easy to work with. You'll be totally fine They love it when you sit and talk with them, I was at a Veteran's home and I got to sit with them and talk about their war stories. It was really interesting and they loved just having somebody to listen to their stories!

It's easy, don't be nervous you will do great. My first patient had gas really bad and kept farting and i tried so hard not to laugh. She kept saying "sorry it's the food here, you can go find someone who don't fart if you want". It was hilarious.

today was cool my patient loved me. she thanked be for listening and taking with her. she wants me to bring her leave in conditioner for the little hair she has left. she stays in the bed, but has been looking for her 2 grand kids since last night. she doesnt know if they slept outside or not because they didnt come in when she called them. she wants me to keep an eye out for them. hehe shes so sweet. she had no problem with me doing vitals over and over and over to get it right. im gonna miss her when we go to the next clinical site, but ill still come visit. its amazing how quick u get attatched to them....

^ Good! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.. I was really un-enthusiastic about my clinical rotation in the nursing home but in retrospect, it was so much fun. I'm actually going to be working in a nursing home. Good luck! Keep us updated on your clinicals, and you can PM me if you ever need help or advice.. I was where you are just a year ago

Ha me too. My mom is a nurse and she gives me all these crazy stories like them falling out of their beds, yelling at people, having dementia and all sorts of other things.

I do hope your patient is a good one. Good luck!

Well maybe that's because I only had them for a clinical rotation. I'll be working with them every day soon enough! I actually kinda like the dementia and crazy behavior, it keeps things interesting

I love it too....so funny some times. One patient at lunch was waiting on her tray in the dining hall. She was on the alarm on her wheelchair so if she got up it would alert. well she kept trying because she was so hungry she wanted to get it herself. She said IM STAAAAARVING ITS BEEN SOOOOOOO LONG SINCE WE'VE EATEN. lol it was only a few hours before. shes always hungry. then she said I SURE HOPE WE GET TO GO HOME AFTER WE EAT OUR CHICKEN! LOL it was nothing near chicken and she was NOT going home. --its kinda sad, but how she said it cracked us up-- I like the nursing home....though my facility is kinda sad. Seems too ...i dunno..like jail. ive seen some that have waterfalls, beautiful flowers.....thius one u just see exit signs and fire extinguishers and nurses. but most of them are not all there anyways to even care. sorry im babbeling. thanks for the offered advice...u will be getting a lot of PMS from me!!

^ Watch what you say and who you say it to. Be very very careful discussing patients with anyone.

In nursing school, I worked as a CNA. I was talking to my friend one day abotu my client at work. Apparently, a girl in my class overheard my conversation, figured out who I worked for and told my company i was discussing patients, which is a HIPAA violation. I was fired from my job.

Be very very careful. Even if you don't say names, it's still not allowed.

Lol hey everyone my wife is in nursing school, she will finish up in June of 08 and be LPN, you have NO IDEA how hard nursing school is for the significant other... helping study and picking up slack at the house, laundry etc.. All well i am proud of my wife and pretty much all nurses because you guys have some hardcore homework.... let alone 12hr clinical days

lol. My mom is an RN too and I grew up hearing the same stories. It made me know I could never do what they do. I give nurses a lot of credit.

    Hope everything goes well Xio!
