I figured since you guys are the ones who talked me into moving to Astoria, I should keep you apprised of the situation
I sent an email to a nursing home there and gave them a backround of my experience. They wrote me back sayign that they were very excited to hear from me, they definatly have a position available for me, they told me what salary they could offer based on my experiece and they asked me to fax over my resume as son as possible. She said she was excited to meet me in August. Unfortunatly, the pay rate there is a lot lower than I expected. It will be hard for me to make ends meet. I did a quick calculation..and I'm not going to make it. Unless...I use part of my student loan to pay the rent up for a year, which I figure to be around 5 grand. Which is ok..thats what the loan is for partly. Housing expences. That'll be ok. She also said they offer tuition reimbursment and that I could come on as an RN after graduation from school next year. So it's a long term position with advancment. And they all sound really nice and email communications have been very warm.
School: Great news on that front....Nevada residents recieve in state tuition prices for the college in Astoria. So tuition will still be only $62 per credit, as opposed to out of state tuition which is $127 per credit. So that's ahuge plus. The college also offers a cross over advancment thing with the local university so that I can work on my bachelors degree while working towards my associates.
Apartments: I'm still on the hunt for a nice affordable place, but I have plenty of time to find something. My price range is only $500 a month in rent, a little more if utilities are included. They do have places in that range, but without seeing them I fear they aren't in great shape. I did find some low income apartment units that looked very nice. They weren't like ghetto projects liek around here..just nice apartments with income guidlines, which I would definatly qualify for. So that's an option. And they allow pets.
So yeah..this plan is falling into place very very nicely.
I plan on packing up as much shit as i can fit into suitcases and flying there, pickign out a place and emptying my suitcases, then come home, get my car, dog and whatever else I have and drive in for good.
My estimated arrival date is August 15th. I plan to start working Sept. 1st. I might have to change those dates based on school semesters tho. I would like to be there and enrolled for fall semester, so I have to check and see when that starts.
When I decide to do somethiing..I want it now. I move fast. If I lose momentum, I might change my mind.....so I am putting everythign into action right away so I am committed.
I hope Astoria is as nice as you all say it is...because it will be my home, weather i like it or not, at least for the next year.
I'm really excited. The prospect of starting over, starting fresh..beign on my own, being in comopete control of everything, just me and my animals, takign time for me, doing what I want to do, not having to concider anyon else.....it's exciting. I can't wait. New life!!
