    Default Stimulus Check

I filed my 2007 taxes electronically, paid what I owed with a voided check and recieved my federal refund back thru direct deposit, But my stimulus check has not been sent thru direct deposit back to me. The IRS site says I should have recieved it by May 16 given the last 2 of my social is 76-99 range. My tax prepairer said I would probably get it thru the mail by the July 11 deadline. Thats screwed up though, the site says if you filed direct deposit, you should recieve it direct deposit, not paper check. Anyone have this problem ? I'm tired of waiting for my money.

Apparently, the stimulus checks are all fucked up.

We got our refund back pronto...we should have gotten our stimulus check back by the first week of May (direct deposit). Nada. A call to the IRS told us that they are backed up a bit and some checks that should have gone DD are being mailed according to the paper date.

Lame-o. Wonder who dropped the ball on that one...

The IRS site shows a payment schedule. This sucks. I wonder why there is not more bad press about this on the news. At this rate, I wont see anything till mid july.

I just got mine, and I'm in the first group of SS numbers. I think it's going to take forever.

I was in the first group of SS numbers, so I had expected it to be sent via direct deposit because I filed electronically and ended up owing 76 bucks, which I allowed them to debit from my checking account electronically..

However, after reading everything it turns out you HAD to have RECIEVED a refund this year via direct deposit. So my check was being sent out snail mail.. a May 24th send out.. I received it on the 26th.

Now you say you filed, paid what you owed with a voided check, and then also recieved a refund?? You paid and also got money back? Or did you mean you paid with the voided check and had them electronically withdraw those funds.. (basically what I did.. which means you're getting a snail check)

There's a toll-free Rebate Hotline at 1-866-234-2942... and it'll tell you exactly how much your check is going to be, and exactly what date it should be mailed out. Or at least it did back in early May when I tried it. You WILL need a couple pertinent details from your return to prove you're you.. it'll ask like, how many dependants did you claim? etc..

When I filed electronically at H&R Block, I had to pay my state taxes with a voided check, and recieved a refund back federally.

If you've used a third party to prepare your taxes (l used Turbo Tax), HR Block, or another preparer...in other words if you didn't file your taxes yourself, directly with the IRS, then your stimulus won't arrive w/ the direct deposit schedule, it'll arrive with the snail mail schedule. Something about the IRS being unable to verify SSN's and account #'s unless you filed it directly with them. In addition, if you opted to have your filing fee come out of your refund when you filed (rather than providing a Credit/Debit Card number and pay the 3rd parties' fees directly), you'll experience the same thing.
This is what happened to me, even though I used the direct deposit option w/ Turbo Tax, since I had their fees taken from my refund, instead of getting my $$ in the middle of May, I now have to wait until the end of this month for a paper check. It sucks because they really didn't make this loop hole clear as they rolled out the stimulus plan. Here's more info on this from the IRS website....

    Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested my electronic filing and/or tax preparation fees be deducted from my refund. Does that affect my stimulus payment?

    A. If you requested that your electronic filing or tax preparation fee be deducted from the amount of your refund, you have entered into a financial agreement with the tax preparation provider or e-file software company for a refund anticipated check (RAC). Both Refund Anticipation Checks (RACs) and Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs) are bank products. The money that is deposited into your bank account comes from the financial institution associated with your electronic filing software provider or tax preparation provider, not directly from the IRS. Taxpayers who use RALs, RACs or enter into similar loans or financial agreements with their tax professional or tax software companies will not receive their economic stimulus payments by direct deposit. Instead they will get a paper check that will be issued according to the schedule that has been published for paper check distribution.

RACs and RALs are a rip off. I just wait for my money. I am not paying a fee or interest on shit that is already mine.

If you used HR block you will get a paper check. That's what happened to me. Because they use their account as a third party account. The IRS pays them, then they pay you. It's so stupid....but that's what happened. They never disclosed this to me until I thought I was getting a DD payment.

The checks are a cluster fuck. We gotr a letter saying we'd recieve a check for $1200(2 people). Got the check..$645. No explanation of why we just got screwed out of almost $600. Just not given.

Fucking government...gee why did I expect anything else but for them to promise one thing and deliver another. Silly me...

^^As I understand it the amount of the checks are based upon income. Perhaps the $1200 was generic based upon two people but the computer calculated your income and it was high enough to mandate a smaller check.

Send me the $645. I didn't get anything But I agree it is fucked up for them to make you believe you were getting the $1200.

If you made more than about 5-6K and less than about 150K you should get one. Ballpark. Here is a link to the IRS which tells you what you need to know.

Hopefully, the check will arrive around mid July. It sucks having a social end in "98". I'm going to be one of the last people to get their checks. I suppose it could be worse. My social could have ended in "99" Bleh . . . . .

not eligible for a stimulus check here either. As I understand it, stimulus check eligibility was tailored to make sure that 'wage-earners' were eligible, while avoiding having to send stimulus checks to as many 'business owners' as possible. This was supposedly based on the theory that wage-earners would quickly spend the money, whereas business owners might use the money to pay down debt or reinvest.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, my last 2 numbers being in the 76-99 range. No check yet. The link that my friend emailed me stated that checks with those in the 76-87 range should have their checks mailed out no later than 4 JUL '08. I filed my taxes electronically via TURBOTAX. I'm not sure how much I'm getting back yet, but I'm praying that I get at least $300 back, LOL. My father also told me that somebody jacked up the system as well, so who knows. I just try not to think about it, and maybe I'll just be pleasantly surprised, HEH.

it's also possible that state / local governments are 'grabbing' stimulus checks to satisfy back taxes, delinquent gov't backed student loans, or other financial obligations ...

(snip)"Thousands of Arizonans have had their economic stimulus payments confiscated because of outstanding federal and state debts.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Management Service has redirected 3,635 payments in Arizona totaling nearly $1.6 million to various federal and state agencies to cover debts such as federal and state tax liabilities, unpaid child support, delinquent student loans and other obligations.

That includes economic stimulus payments that would have been sent by Friday.

“Basically if people owe a delinquent federal debt, more than 180 days old, the agency that the debt is owed to will refer the debt to us and we will make attempts to collect it,” said Tom Longnecker, legislative affairs specialist with the Financial Management Service. “And with the economic stimulus payments ... we will offset all or part of it to satisfy a federal debt. It also includes state tax debt and child support as well.”

As of June 3, the Arizona Department of Revenue received 2,944 payments totaling more than $1.24 million from economic stimulus payments, said Dan Zemke, agency spokesman. Since May 2, the Department of Economic Security has received an estimated 2,437 payments totaling nearly $1.6 million from economic stimulus payments for unpaid child support, said spokesman Fernando Vender.

The Financial Management Service issues all checks for the Internal Revenue Service, and runs each one by its debtor database to see if the recipient has an outstanding debt, Longnecker said. Income tax refunds usually present the biggest opportunity for debt collection, but this year’s stimulus payments provide an additional collection opportunity. In most cases, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when taxpayers’ stimulus payments are confiscated, he said.

“If it’s been offset, we send them a letter saying your payment’s been offset,” Longnecker said. “In general, people who owe debt to the government know that they owe the debt because the agency has been trying to get the money from them.”"(snip)
