Default Uncontacted tribe photographed near Brazil-Peru border

    CRAZY!

Members of one of the world’s last have been spotted and photographed from the air near the Brazil-Peru border. The photos were taken during several flights over one of the remotest parts of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil’s Acre state.

‘We did the overflight to show their houses, to show they are there, to show they exist,’ said uncontacted tribes expert José Carlos dos Reis Meirelles Júnior. Meirelles works for FUNAI, the Brazilian government’s Indian affairs department. ‘This is very important because there are some who doubt their existence.’

Meirelles says that the group’s numbers are increasing. But other uncontacted groups in the region, whose homes have been photographed from the air, are in severe danger from illegal logging in Peru. Logging is driving uncontacted tribes over the border and could lead to conflict with the estimated five hundred uncontacted Indians already living on the Brazilian side.

‘What is happening in this region [of Peru] is a monumental crime against the natural world, the tribes, the fauna and is further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the ‘civilised’ ones, treat the world,’ said Meirelles.

There are more than one hundred uncontacted tribes worldwide, with more than half living in either Brazil or Peru. All are in grave danger of being forced off their land, killed and decimated by new diseases. Survival has launched an urgent campaign to get their land protected, and .

Survival’s director Stephen Corry said today, ‘These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist. The world needs to wake up to this, and ensure that their territory is protected in accordance with international law. Otherwise, they will soon be made extinct.’

Hopefully the tribe won't sacrifice any living creatures in order to appease the angry flying god...

^ should we send animal loving missionaries in their to teach them the evilness of their ways if they did...?

I wanna know the story behind their color.

It's tragic that they are getting forced around. One would think that if they've managed to survive in the amazon in that environment with those mosquitoes and poisons they should be able to make it through anything...I can't get over how selfish it is to cut down all their trees and disrupt their land. Maybe people will take precautions now...but I doubt it.

Do you ever think if aliens found earth we'd look like that to them? Suspicious, simplistic, pathetic earthlings... and then they'd try to protect us like an endangered species. Weird.

I hope so. Better than vaporizing us....maybe. It would be weird to have aliens take over our world and tear down our buildings causing us to die and all huddle in one small area of the world. That would be so scary!

    hahaha at the douchebag pic....

its so sad that there arent more untouched tribes left in the world. blame globalization and christianity for that one. good old christianity, where they go to amazing far away exotic lands and tell people they should be ashamed of how they live.

catholisism and christianity are the biggest cultural killers out there. it makes me sad.

It kind of made me sad to see those pictures, even though it seems like the people taking them have good intentions. But it just sorta feels like, "here are some untouched peoples! Lets touch them!!!"

I really hope that people leave them alone. Of course, if the pics help morons who log to stop it. That would be great.

Why are they chopping away at the rainforest, anyways? WTF?

How amazing! I hope they can be left in peace, though I sort of doubt they will be for too long.

I had no idea there were any uncontacted tribes left! Seriously, there are more than 100 left?

That is fascinating. I was reading about it a few days ago when it first came out. I just hope they leave them alone. That pic of them aiming with their bows is amazing.

My first thought was sadness too .... I mean, as much as I personally would love to learn about them, their beliefs, their customs, etc ... idk, why should they be picked apart and exploited? I love shows like "Going Tribal" etc, but I can't help but feel weird about some of it ... idk.

The logging needs to stop, or be slowed down...so hopefully some good will come of it. I'm sure their intentions are good, in hopes to being the issues to the forefront, but I just hope they leave the people alone.

idk, that's the pic that makes me feel sad. I interpret it as them feeling preyed upon, under attack almost, and just wanting privacy. I mean, obviously, I'm no mind-reader, I wasn't there, but that's the impression I got when looking at it.

Oh no, thats exactly what I mean. Its amazing that they captured the pic, but its incredibly sad to pry into their lives. I know they must have been terrified. I hope they are left alone.
