Do you know which neighbors did it? Bake them some cookies or make them a casserole or something, and take it by to thank them profusely. Explain that you've been trying to find a lawnmower but haven't been able to bring one home yet, and maybe ask if they can recommend a neighborhood kid you can hire to mow the lawn next time. And then thank them again for doing you such a thoughtful favor. Just be gracious!
Well, when you buy the lawn mower and notice their lawn is ready for a cut, return the favor.
I don't think it's that embarassing. My aunts neighbor has been mowing her lawn for years. It's just a nice thing he does while he's out there working on his own.
I would say next time you see your neighbors wave and be super friendly, and then go over and thank them. Be like, "thank you so much, we were going to buy a lawnmower but we couldn't find a box that fit in the car. We're working on getting one soon, but in the meantime thanks for helping us out. We really appreciate it!" And then talk about the weather or something. Like, "Sheesh- if we keep getting this much rain it'll only be another 4 days til it needs it again!" Or "sheesh, if it stays this hot all the grass is gonna dry out and neither one of us is going to have to mow the lawn!!!" Its always a good idea to be on friendly terms with your neighbors.![]()

yup!
Also, it's my understanding as a landlord that if a tenant is expected to provide lawn care for a property the owner must provide the nessacary tools... I haven't brushed up on Colorado housing laws in about two years so you may want to verify that, but I beleive your landlord is responsible for purchasing the lawn mower.
Definitely be gracious. Some people just enjoy mowing (not sure why lol). We have a huge yard and my son was mowing last year when the neighbor came buy on his tractor and bush hog and just started mowing with him lol. This guy obviously enjoys it because he mowes a strip up and down the entire road, which is about 2 miles long. My husband was embarrassed and a little upset but they guy was already making his trip up the road and just swung into our yard to help out I guess. Your neighbors were probably just trying to be nice as well. I'm sure that they know that you wouldn't just let your lawn go to hell if you could help it.
