    Default Random Vomiting

This is actually a question about my mom...

She randomly vomits at least once every 2 - 3 months. She's been to the doc and has had numerous tests, but none point to anything "serious." The doc thinks it's only acid reflux, so she gave her some meds, which work, to a degree, but the vomiting still continues. Before she vomits, she feels fine. At first, she thought she couldn't eat certain foods that produce acid, but even when she doesn't eat them, she still will vomit/dry heave, at times. She only feels bad for about 3-5 hours. She also feels fine right before she vomits and right after.

Has anyone had/known anyone who's had similar symptoms? Otherwise, she's in good health as far as we know.

Is she eating to much or too fast?

Is it a food allergy. I used to do the same thing when I ate dairy. Also if she is on any weightloss supps that could cause it also. Have her stop eating.drinking certain types of foods to see if that helps. Any allergy tests done?

I'm also wondering if its a food allergy. Maybe something she doesn't normally eat, but she doesn't know that its in certain foods? Like some kind of nut or something?

Hmm, I throw up randomly more often than the average person, but I really think stress is the culprit and there seems to be a correlation.

My Mom was like this for years. She still refuses to listen to me and now has rheumatoid arthitis (strongly linked to gluten intolerance).

She should definitely see a specialist in digestive issues and eliminate: gluten (or at least all wheat), dairy, and condiments/seasonings. Even if the specialist finds nothing, she should eliminate these things. It could also be candida. There are lots of candida cleanses on the market but they only work in conjunction with a low carb (zero sugar) diet.

For me, if I eat too many cashews I'll throw up. But I also know now that I'm intolerant to cashews.

wow when i was 18 i went thru a phase where for about a month i would vomit suddenly without expecting it or feeling sick before or after. It happened every night or two. I never found out what caused it but it went away on its own.

    it was really weird.

I was about to say your mom might want to get evaluated by a rheumatologist, as many autoimmune conditions can cause this exact presentation.

I used to throw up randomly and unexpectedly every few weeks since I was a kid. Turns out, I have a wheat allergy/gluten intolerance.
She should definitly see a specialist. In my case, I got the run around for years, cuz at the time, food allergies (especially wheat) were not common suspects. At least they are "trendy" now, more docs are willing to test for them. I sure wish I had a diagnosis sooner!

BUT, the reason this thread caught my eye....
Even thought I avoid all forms of gluten like the plague, the random throwing up had been happening again the last few weeks. I know I'm not pregnant or anything (I hear you have to get laid for that to happen).
So if you find anything out, be sure to update!

    ^^^ Hey BabyGirl
I had a reaction a couple of weeks ago after eating at a restaurant I normally wouldn't have eaten at. I'm betting there was gluten or msg or something in the seasonings they used. Normally I prepare my own food. So I'm wondering if you were eating out at a new restaurant or something?

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to tell her today what you all said and ask if she's been specifically tested for allergies. I'll also mention the digestive issues thing. She doesn't take weightloss supps, and she def doesn't eat too much or too quickly. However, when she was younger, she used to eat pretty quickly...not that that would necessarily affect her now...
