    Metro: Standoff Shooter Is Dead
Officer Shot During Incident In Stable Condition, Police Say

    POSTED: 7:26 am PDT June 5, 2008
    UPDATED: 12:33 pm PDT June 5, 2008

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police say the man who caused a three-hour standoff that led to an officer being shot is dead, but police did not specify how the man died.

The report came just before 7 a.m. Thursday. Police were called by employees of the Penthouse Club on West Russell Road because a man, who was being ejected by security, refused to leave, police said.

Once police arrived at the club, the man fled in a Hummer, prompting a police chase, police said.

The driver lost control of his car near Hacienda Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, police said, causing the vehicle to roll over.

After the wreck, the man refused to exit the car and an officer went in to investigate. That is when shots were fired between the wrecked car and the cruiser unit, injuring one of the officers, police said.

The officer, who was shot in the leg, has been hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.

Metro's SWAT division has been deployed to the scene and police have closed Hacienda Avenue from about Rainbow Boulevard to Durango Drive for safety purposes.

The man is still barricaded inside the Hummer at the wreck scene, police said. Police have also started evacuating residents in the area while they negotiate with the shooter.

Crime scene investigators are at the Penthouse Club searching for clues in the case, but said the club had exterior cameras that may help piece this case together.

Officers plan to keep the area of Hacienda Avenue blocked off until their investigation is complete. They said they will not release the name of the shooter until he can be identified and his next of kin has been contacted.

^yes.. it started inside the club and finished in the street. One of my friends that worked last night left right before it happened. She said there were only 11 dancers at that time.

Crazy. But..I am a little tipsy, so...

I'm not terribnly suprised. PH has gotten more and more gehtto. They play nothign but rap an hip hop. They dont have good securioty at thedoor. they let anyone in. The bouncers arent grea. I had a problem wtith a customer tring to physicially pull me out of the club and the bounce was standing right there and did nothign. i complained later to manager about it.

I actually have enojoyed wiorking ther ein the past...but shit needs to change.

I'm not surprised that shit happened either. I've been hearing that Penthouse has been going downhill. Makes me glad I don't work there anymore.

OK...so this shooting at Penthouse (and the reaction) kinda freaks me out.

One...I don't think it's fair to dismiss this as "oh it's a ghetto club anyways". Not that I'm saying that the club hasn't gone down in quality recently....but "ghetto" or not, it's NOT a good thing to have a guy open fire in a club. Or fuckin anywhere for that matter.

The story goes that the shooter got a ton of dances with a girl, was drunk, got obsessive and angry when she wouldn't go home with him.
How many times has a drunk guy gotten upset with a dancer for that reason, or something else?

Not to mention, he didn't have a gun in the club, he got it from his car and came back firing. How easy is that? I doubt that is the fault of security. He probably looked perfectly normal when he first came in.

So.....lets see, have we, as dancers, met anyone like this??
A guy who gets dances and spends money
A guy who got drunk and obnoxious
A guy who wanted to take a dancer home
A guy who was asked to leave when he didn't want to
A guy who keeps a gun (probably legal in most states) in his car

Separately, these things may not lead to any sort of violence, but add a few together...

It doesn't matter where you work, or how "ghetto" your club is or isn't.
    This could happen ANYWHERE.
It's absolutly terrifying when you think about it.

Your right. It is terrifyign and it could happen anywwhere....but different clubs attract differnet types of customers. When a club is attracting lowlife customers, the probability of somethign happening becomes much higher than it would be at a more upscale club that attracts more upscale clientele. Not saying it couldn't happen...just less likely.

I didn't dismiss it as "oh, it's a ghetto club anyway" I just meant that I'm not terribly shocked they are having this issue because they are attracting the wrong customers.

Ive always worried about this happening and the times ive worried about it most was when working in upper echelon clubs. There is so much money going through high end clubs I have always worried about someone coming in with a gun and robbing the girls club ect. When girls are walking around with 1000 plus dollars in their garter you get worried. Also I dont know how low end this cusomer was he was throwing around hundreds and driving a hummer.
