    The Early 90's

Ok, this is for all my people out there (girls AND guys) who are at least my age, 27.....you were anywhere from the age of 13 to 20 during the years in particular 1990-1995. You love rock 'n roll and alternative, and MISS THE HELL OUT OF THE 90'S!

My friend whom I am living with now has expanded cable and we get the VH1 Classic channel....which I have been watching nonstop for about 3 days now, and inspired this thread.

So many BAD ASS BANDS were in their prime in those years...I'll go ahead and name one...Faith No More.
The music video was actually about music and art. People fucking played instruments. Artists didn't have to put some sluts in booty shorts and have them shake their ass all in the camera in their videos to make people watch them. It wasn't all about "look how rich and gangster I am" "look at my Escalade with the dubs on it" or "Look we're drinking champagne at a club....doesn't that make this video cool???"
IMO, the music video has DIED. It will never be the same again. I remember being a young teenager and watching VH1 and MTV for hours on end. Now, I hardly flip by the channels and it makes me sick. NO MUSIC, just bad reality shows...really...really...bad. "Celebrity fit club" for example.
Where has the music gone? Originality? Talent?

Anyway, I am not trying to get off on a rant, I just want all your favorite 90's bands and videos, and memories.

I hope this thread goes somewhere cause I am really interested to see what some of you guys will post!

Some of my all time fave videos are :

    "Heart Shaped Box" by Nirvana
    "Black Hole Sun" by Soungarden
"Falling to Pieces" by Faith No More
    "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails
"Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode
"Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction
    "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots

If you find it please let me know!! Since you got "Closer" - NIN on your list I will have to answer with Tool - Sober. While not the biggest fan of Van Hagar even I have to admit the video for was original and memorable.

Well yeah, none of us want to be Van Hagar fans, but still they did some stuff that was enjoyable.
I agree, the "Right Now" video was very cool, and artistic.

This is what I am hoping to gain from this thread.....to know there are others out there that appreciate msic videos like I do, and....

Maybe post some stuff that I've forgotten about! I am dying to burn a new CD with all classic like these........

This was in 1997 so I guess it wouldn't be "early 90s" but I always thought the video for Smack My Bitch Up-The Prodigy was really creative. That song also still kicks total ass in my humble opinion . Even if it does give me really weird flash backs to when I used to get high LOL!

    Well, I don't know if the videos were the best and I get late 80's and early 90's a lil' mixed (Old Fart Syndrome...or maybe I scorched the livin' hell outta my brain cells during those years ) but heres some old faves;

(Their early 90's songs would have been off of the Fire Woman album but this kicks ass till eternity)

(This gets most of the Seattle grunge scene players in one blow...good song anyways)

(I like their older stuff better but tryin to keep it 90's)

("Are You Gonna Go My Way" has a better video but this is the jam )

More later...I'm gonna go smash some pumpkins!

Two of our djs play some good "oldies". I'm trying to get one in to Cracker at the moment, because we play too much modern, whiney/angry stuff right now. So far one plays ' Sex on Wheels' by the Thrill Kill Cult for me most days. Woo hoo! Wondering if Throwing Muses is too much for the club...

Guns N Roses-You could be mine, November Rain
Metallica-When they were actually thrash metal back then
    Nirvana-Everything from them
    Hole-Live through this album
    SilverChair-Tomorrow
    Nine Inch Nails-Everything from them
    Tool-Everything from them
Marilyn Manson-Portrait of American Family, Smells like Children and the AntiChrist Superstar
    Jane's Addiction
    Live

and more that I can't think of...Today's music like linkin park doesn't compare to the 90's grunge/alternative scene.

....and yes, IBI. In my opinion they should just call MTV and VH1 reality show networks, I don't even see how they can be classified as music channels anymore. TRL....don't even get me started. It all began with that goober Carson Daly and his stupid, stupid face and everything about him I loathe.

    Anyone who hates TRL, Carson Daly, and shitty shlock-40 rap is cool in my book!! I promised more so...I'll try to keep these more rock oriented;

    - Primus
    - Smashing Pumpkins
    - Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Straight To Hell" - Drivin N' Cryin (Might be from 89' but is still one of the best drinkin songs evar!)
    - Everclear
    - Filter

OK! That is IT! We're starting a band. When we're famous, I get Axl. (Just in case you're also a weirdo like me and want to bang him....I doubt this'll be a problem though....)

Also, Silverchair is a guilty pleasure....I just hate the way they tried to be Nirvana back when they were young. Idk...Daniel's cute.

Hey, wanna let Courtney Love open for us? I'm sure she'll appreciate the help.

I wholeheartedly agree that early 90s music was great.

Here are just a few bands whose biggest albums or most seminal work debuted in 1991-1995: Alice in Chains, Beck, Blur, Blind Melon, Bush, Breeders, Counting Crows, Cake, Cranberries, Cracker, Gin Blossoms, Green Day, Hole, My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana, Oasis, Offspring, Pavement, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum, Stone Temple Pilots and Weezer.

Some of it doesn't hold up very well but some if it - like the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream album - sounds great today.

For me, music went through a dead period in the late 90s Britney/Limp Bizkit era when the only bright spots were Radiohead's Amnesiac and Kid A. IMO things started improving in the early 2000s when bands like the White Stripes came out.

But most of the bands I'm the biggest fan of today - like Silversun Pickups and The Editors - are derivative of 80s and early 90s music. I feel like there's no distinctive new sound out there today - unlike the early 90s.

I think my and Tauries' musical tastes are very similar.

    Thanks for letting me vent.
