Lifestyle and diet changes can go a long way toward relieving the symptoms of many inflammatory and/or autoimmune diseases. A lot of doctors don't really know all that much about these types of diseases, as their causes and mechanisms of action are poorly understood and have not been sufficiently researched. Likewise, prednisone has been used by the medical industry as a sort of "easy fix" for a lot of these problems, again with the mechanisms of action not being fully understood. If you consider how busy a doctor's schedule is and how doctors are constantly bombarded by marketing information from pharmaceutical companies about the myriad uses of the drugs they manufacture, it makes perfect sense that you should try to learn as much as possible (from credible sources!) and not just trust what doctors and pharmaceutical companies are saying.
If you have been prescribed prednisone and you hate it (and just about everyone who takes it hates it), then you should take the time to inform yourself about why you're taking it and what alternatives there are for you. You will be pleased to learn there is a big community of people out there just like you who really dislike prednisone and have found ways to cut it out of their lives. If you're unlucky, a viable alternative may not present itself, but I think it's definitely worth looking into.
I'm not posting this as some sort of rant against the healthcare industry. I'm just posting because I know people who have dealt with prednisone and who have successfully found alternatives to the drug, and who have gone on to be very happy and healthy. It's worth a shot.
