    Default "proof of income"

I have been saving all my receipts from depositing cash into the bank so I can have a paper trail of my income. Could this actually help me any in the future to say rent or buy a home? I technically could be just depositing $500, then withdrawing it, then depositing it again and again....

for renting, i supplied 2 years worth of bank statements and a credit report when i had no tax records.

depends on who you lease from, leasing agencies are more strict and single landlords less strict.

As stated above, bank statements are 'better than nothing'. However, they are not considered to be authoritative 'proof of income' for verification purposes. Thus while some businesses may be willing to accept bank statements alone, any serious financial institution is going to want to also see tax returns etc.

also if your in good with your manager you can get him to print up a proof of income sheet to give to your new landlord, just tell them the amount to put in.

Thank you, ladies. I don't have tax returns yet because I just started in November, although I did claim the little income I made in my first 6 weeks for 2008. I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right because I want to buy a house in the next 7 years (before I turn 30). I will continue to keep my statements and next year I will claim all my income.
