Good questions. I'm not going to be able to answer yours directly but instead give you some information about my move several years ago. When I was moving from Southern California to Florida, I called around about renting a UHaul and I was surprised about how expensive they were. I forget the amount but it was way high. I then began calling around SoCal, I tried LA, OC, Riverside and San Diego. Differing prices but not the kind of break I was looking for. Then it dawned on me. Where is everyone moving to? Wherever that was, they'd have excess moving trucks. Back then it was Vegas. So I called and found out I could rent a UHaul for 1/2 the price. Even with the extra 8 hours of driving I was going to save like $600-700. The moral of the story is that you should call around, different cities have different prices for rental trucks.

go to and they can give you a quote, just put in all your info.

mwah
still, if anyone can help me out about anything post here!!

another tip: make sure your movers speak english. I had spanish speaking ones and even with my awesome finger pointing skills the dining room table ended upstairs somehow.they put all kinds of crap in the wrong places b/c of our communication problems. I called the spanish MIL and she came over and made them move alot, lol.

I've moved almost 8 times in 4 years and my best moving tip is to use packing time to get rid of stuff you don't use, and when you're unpacking, take your time putting stuff away. Also, you can get boxes for free at grocery stores and wal-mart type stores.

wal mart here doesn't give boxes!!! on the side it says "every box returned is 42 cents saved" or some shit. i don't really care to shop at walmart so, i get boxes from target![]()

Well, I'm only moving about 25 miles away from where I'm staying now and it's going to cost me $115 with 35 miles included. Anything over that you pay so much per mile, so I'm assuming to Austin it would be a lot more than that.

really?? the size i need i quoted at uhaul, and it was 3 days +300 something miles for $195. i'd only use it one day so i'm guessing it'd be $300 ish?? (i over estimate so when it's a little lower i get happy.)

Hmmm, they probably discount their prices somewhat if you're moving further away. That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all!

no, it doesn't! i was really suprised.
I just used one to move 2 weeks ago so I'll just tell you our experience. First, you need to actually call the uhaul place and ask about any charges that they haven't disclosed. Keep in mind they charge tax (they didn't tell me that). Ours was supposed to be local, but uhaul said they currently have a shortage of trucks and if the truck you want isn't available at your local pickup place, you'll have to drive to the one that has the size you need. Oh, and they do charge you mileage for that.
Long distance may be different than local, but they charged us $29.95 for the rental + tax. And then 99 cents per mile starting from when you leave the pickup location until you return it to wherever you return it.
I think I remember seeing on their website that you can borrow boxes for free. You just have to return them. Good luck![]()
Yay!!!! I'm so excited you're moving to Austin![]()

^ finally!
Be careful with u-haul. I'm not saying that all of the dealers are bad, but many people have had bad experiences with u-haul. I requested one a few years ago for a move, and they told me the truck wasn't available for the day I'd reserved well in advance. It was just the thing I wanted to hear when I had to be out of one place the 31st and move in the 1st. I canceled the order and family bailed me out, thankfully.
Type u-haul into ripoffreport.com and you can read about the dealers in your area, perhaps, in addition to the horror stories.

thank you!
Try Budget, I used them last time. You can get a quote on their site.

I dunno, but its so cool you're moving to austin! Whoo hoo!

I second throwing away crap you don't really need. If you're like me and get attached to stuff, just suck it up and throw it away because when you unpack and get settled you wont even miss that extra crap. Plus it makes everything easier, less overwhelming, lighter...
