Default Removing my Great Lengths - what to expect? Also, a review of GL

I'm getting my Great Lengths extensions out next Thursday, then getting my hair trimmed and colored the next day. The space between my hair and the bond is getting too long and they're starting to really tangle and dread.

The stylist has me booked for 6 hours (OMFG), washing my hair with dandruff shampoo (the sulfur in it helps dissolve the bonds) and told me to stop using biosilk because it strengthens the bonds (I haven't, I can't live without my biosilk).

To those who have been through this, what can I expect during and after the removal?

I am satisfied with the experience, overall. It was expensive - $3,000 for 4 months of long hair, and in defense of the system I had to use twice as much hair as a "normal" head of hair. It really helped my hair recover from a horrible color job that melted off the last 4 inches of my hair. I haven't had to heat style most of my hair so it's in great condition. It was like a crutch to help it grow. It was totally gorgeous.

I only have a few gripes. They would not be wearable for 6 months like the stylist claimed they could be. Even at nearly 4 months it's kind of pushing it. It's really, really annoying to not be able to brush your hair near the roots. The "permed" hair is just kinky and limp, and the "straight" hair is very wavy. If you have curly or straight hair, this isn't for you. If your hair is wavy, then go for it. I would probably get them again if it was around $1,000 or if the hair was re-usable. I track my earnings, and I thought at first it made a difference in my money, but it really didn't overall. It just made me a lot more confident.

After I get them out I'm switching to a Ken Paves HairDo clip in human hair extensions for work. It will be nice to only pay $400 and be able to take it in and out.

Wow that seems like a long time. I had a simliar extension and it took her about 30 minutes. I took immaculate care of mine, so there was no damage to mine. I cut and colored immediately afterwards. I highly recommend doing some coconut oil treatments to your hair in the next few days.

Getting mine out hurt---not like horrible pain, but damn was annoying exspecailly when he went faster as he had other customers shortly after and we went past the time we planned for(3hrs). Plus I used the Hair to help me grow out mine, but I had to cut it even more after becuz the damage the bonding did to my hair was nasty.

I love the hair at 1st and it did earn it's keep (for me it was a definate raise that made more then the 2gs I spent on it), but after 3-4mo it was beatup and time consuming 2 fix it up and you are totally right about the str8 hair being wavvy which sucks. I really wouldn't do it again, but miss the money that came with it soo I'll just have to wait till my hair grows out that long as for me I rather have healthy hair that is real then extensions that make the money, but are a pain to deal with that damage my hair after I'm done with it.

Hopefully it will go better for you.

Honestly, I hope your experience is better than mine, but here it goes:

Mine were 2 grand (this was about 4 years ago) and they took like eight hours to put in. The only good thing about this was somebody did them at my house, so we were watching tv and eating snacks as it was going down lol.

Right around the four month mark, they started to get totally knappy and nasty, like dread locked, in between the extension and my real hair. I was also really fucking pissed off about the straight hair being wavy, because I had just paid five hundred dollars to japanese straighten my own wavy hair, so then I paid two grand to get um....more waves?

It was REALLY painful to get the extensions out because honey, that space in between the extensions and your hair is actually dread locked! EEEK!! It is really hard to get the rats nests out of your hair, uggghhhh....I hated the whole experience to be honest and will NEVER do extensions again!!

The only positiveI can say is that the extensions did not do any kind of damage to my hair, and it looked totally normal and fine after getting the extensions out ...

i have the generic version of the ken paves hair, and i'm very happy with it. its such a relief to be able to take it off at the end of the night, it takes a little bit off finesse, and i wasn't grasping it at first, but now i like the clip ins a lot
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

This so sucks, because this long, big hair is now part of my stripper persona, and I'm going to be kind of sad when it's gone.

I've had my extensions in for about 3 months nowand they still look and feel great. Maybe it was because u used bond? I heard that's really bad for your hair. Mine are the weft and individual rings and I just get them moved up every 6-8 weeks. Havent noticed any damage to my real hair.

Viola is dead on about the straight not being straight, it was very annoying with my thermally straightened hair. I just got one long bundle for color highlights.

I paid around 300 and I wasnt happy, i just chose GL because it was my first time with extensions and I believed in "you get what you pay for"

    The best part?

THERE WAS A COTTON STRING in my extensions. Thats right, a white string that thought it was a strand of hair, just chillin in the bundle and it was bonded into my hair. unbelievable.

I had them in six years ago and I had the same complaint everyone here is saying. The matting and knotting was horrible!

I had Great Lenths for about 5 months, they were great EXCEPT for the price and I had to get some pieces replaced about halfway through because they started falling out a bit when I brushed them.. I used biosilk and other products I probably shouldn't have, though... I couldn't help it, they needed moisture!
They definitely have small waves in them, so it was annoying whenever I washed and didnt' blow dry them straight, they'd be wavy while my natural hair is pretty straight.
HEre are some pics of them..... the first one was RIGHT after I got them, I wasn't happy with the cut she gave them, they looked choppy and thin to me, but I got it fixed after and didn't take another pic...... the second pic is when I curled them. They blended more with my real hair when I curled them but it took a long time!

Getting them taken out was easy! She had some kind of pliers and oil and just took them out individually- it was painless....
For ppl who had matting/dreadlocks, I guess just brush them more every day with the G.L. brush.... I brushed mine at least two times a day and had no problems with matting.... even when my tracks grew farther away from my head

I brushed way more than twice a day and they still matted.

I can get GL to last six months in my hair. My hair doesn't really seem to dred, but that could be because I have such fine straight natural hair. Getting GL in an out of my hair isn't painfull at all, and usually pretty quick. Sounds like your hair is thick and curly though, so we will probably have completly different experiences.

GL can be reused. I've never done it, but I know at my hairdresser they just cut the top off the bond and glue a new bond on. So the reused extension will be 3 or 4 cm shorter that the original.
