I'm getting my Great Lengths extensions out next Thursday, then getting my hair trimmed and colored the next day. The space between my hair and the bond is getting too long and they're starting to really tangle and dread.
The stylist has me booked for 6 hours (OMFG), washing my hair with dandruff shampoo (the sulfur in it helps dissolve the bonds) and told me to stop using biosilk because it strengthens the bonds (I haven't, I can't live without my biosilk).
To those who have been through this, what can I expect during and after the removal?
I am satisfied with the experience, overall. It was expensive - $3,000 for 4 months of long hair, and in defense of the system I had to use twice as much hair as a "normal" head of hair. It really helped my hair recover from a horrible color job that melted off the last 4 inches of my hair. I haven't had to heat style most of my hair so it's in great condition. It was like a crutch to help it grow. It was totally gorgeous.
I only have a few gripes. They would not be wearable for 6 months like the stylist claimed they could be. Even at nearly 4 months it's kind of pushing it. It's really, really annoying to not be able to brush your hair near the roots. The "permed" hair is just kinky and limp, and the "straight" hair is very wavy. If you have curly or straight hair, this isn't for you. If your hair is wavy, then go for it. I would probably get them again if it was around $1,000 or if the hair was re-usable. I track my earnings, and I thought at first it made a difference in my money, but it really didn't overall. It just made me a lot more confident.
After I get them out I'm switching to a Ken Paves HairDo clip in human hair extensions for work. It will be nice to only pay $400 and be able to take it in and out.
