Only if they are a certain percentage over the allowed amount of your income. Im not sure what the exact percentage is but, usually unless you have a major medical procedure or have really low income they won't allow them.. For example if you only do routine dr visits, optometrist, dentist, gyno etc. and make like 30-45k per year, you still need like another 1 or 2k in medical bills to deduct it.
ETA: You do not need insurance to make these deductions. If you have insurance you may only deduct your out of pocket espenses and monthly premiums.

my teeth are expected to be over 2k... is that a write off??
sorry i am asking something you may have already said, but i really don't understand things like this the first time i hear them, sometimes even the 2nd 3rd and 4th time.

speaking of this.. can i write off my BA?
^^^no...highly looked down upon. Unless you are going 1000 cc or more. Melonie has written some REALLY good info on this in many other threads. It's such a housewife surgery now it doesn't qualify. I'm not really sure about it though, some accountants say yes, some say no. I'm talking to an accountant this Sunday.

it's strange, i guess it's just if the IRS gets picky eh??

^ i don't beleive you. there are a zillion threads on boobs. nice try.
if that is true though, make your own thread.

i dont really CARE if you believe me, i saw your thread and figured if you were asking about your teeth and someone could answer that, it wouldnt freaking hurt to take 2 seconds away from your question to answer mine. i didnt even THINK of it til i saw your thread. jesus christ.

britt... please stop because i don't want my thread to get closed.
edit: i am not blocking britt because i don't ignore people, but i am not replying to her childish taunts in order to get one over on me and getting the last word.
let me repeat... I DO NOT WANT MY THREAD TO GET CLOSED.

i wasnt aware that i couldnt ask a similiar question in a thread that wasnt started on my own. pardon me![]()

Corgan, you can right off your medical expenses over a certain amount, but you have to itemize your deducitions to take it. I had a ton of dental bills last year, but it was just under what a standard dedction would be, so I just took that.
I should have been a dentist, what a fucking racket!

okay thanks!!! i have alot of stuff to take care of body wise so this helps.

you can only deduct medical expenses in excess of 7.5% of your income. Thus if you earn $40k per year, for example, the first $3000 of medical expenses would NOT be deductible.
Per a special act of congress, cosmetic surgeries are NOT deductible no matter what the cost. There is one exception for boob jobs, thanks to a big bust entertainer with the stage name of Chesty Love. If you get 'professional sized' implants i.e. implants larger than 1000cc (each), and if you work in a business where large breast implants will be expected to increase income potential, then 100% of the cost is deductible as a business expense.

ok so no deduction for me.
that's okthanks!
