WOW such amazing results! You must be so happy, you should!
I did accutane when I was a teenager too, it worked well for me but that was a few years ago. Now my acnee is back, but definaltely not as bad!
You def had it worse than me, but your after pics look way better......
Did you get scars? I've got a few around my forehead because I have thin skin. It's only been 2 years, so I'm praying they vanish.

^^ i have scarring and right now theres still redness(which is easily covered with makeup) but my derm told me i'll be using a cream that will get rid of the redness and some of the scarring. she also said laser peels will help with the scarring. i have an apt next week that my derm will decide which creams will work bestbut i'm just glad all that nasty painful acne is gone!

What amazing results-I bet you're so happy!
wow such amazing results! you are beautiful!
Congrats! You look great and so CLEAR!!
yay for you!!!!I'm on accutane right now....2nd month...I'm hoping mine goes away forever too! I had to stop taking it for a few weeks cause my liver enzymes were to high (drinking
) and a couple popped back up and I was super upset...my face has been pretty clear and I had soon forgotten the anguish of happy pimples! LOL!
You've had great results and give me hope that this will work for me! Keep us posted how your skin does over time.![]()

I went on Accutane in 2001 for four months, and it was SO worth it. I will say that when I went off, my skin freaked out for several months (I think because I was still using my pre-Accutane regimen and that was totally overkill), and then in August, I started the acne.org regimen and my skin has been virtually flawless ever since. I don't need to apply nearly as much zit cream as I did the first week, just enough to maintain, but apart from a few surface zits caused by ordinary things like working out or sleeping in makeup, my complexion stays clear. Also, my back and chest used to break out a lot and now they almost never do.
I realize that one of the side effects of Accutane is depression, but I never felt it. Instead, I was like, "WAHOOO!!!! No more zits!"
You must be overjoyed at how amazing your results are, I would be. Congratulations! Your skin looks amazing! I think it's great that you posted this cause this may help/give hope to others.

Congrats, your skin looks amazing.![]()
I did it in 2007, & don't regret it one bit either. I use to get a lot of cystic acne, but you couldn't tell bc it was deep but painful. Haven't gotten a cystic zit since. A LOT of maintnance & patience while on it, but worth it at the end.

You look amazing!!
How much does the derm cost and the perscription? I don't have health insurace at the moment. Also, does it help with blackheads?

I just got done a month ago ( 5 or 6 months as well ). The expense is worth it. It was hard on me emotionally ( crying spells , sadness , aggression .... my poor body and mind was just like the written warnings). I'd do again though.
I had a really awful experience with my first doctor ( he pulled me off after a month and I trusted him for years with my skin ..... it was a huge mistake to trust him when obviously things were not improving ).
I was smart enough to fire him and pull my charts about 8 months ago . I still don't know how many visits I had with that first one and sometimes I still want to go to his office and tell him how upsetting the experience was for me.
Glad it's over. If you think you need the drug ....... get it .... don't wait. I have mild scarring that has actually even improved over the last month. I was filled with so much hate regarding that first doctor when I would look in the mirror. I'm just glad things are improved. I'm planning to get micro , peels , whatever lasers they can give me as a final step.
I just hope that this is it for me with this problem. My skin looks great now and I just hope it stays that way. If not .... I fully trust my 2nd doctor and he fully trusts my debit card !
Hoola : My derm visits cost $42. The medicine cost is what is hard ( $200-$300 per month depending on dosage .... yeah ... you right that right .... that's for the generic brand ). I promise it is worth every penny though.

wow thats fuckin amazing! may have to look into this!

^ Hoola : You are welcome. If it's something you are struggling with ... do is sooner than later. You'll have to do a birth control test / be on bc pills ect. I think I had to wait a month to start the drug .... then it takes a month or two to see improvement. With improvement already being 2-3 months away .... get there asap.
The birth control nonsense is invasive , but is is necessary since some women apparently don't understand they can't get pregnant ( or their methods don't work ) .
I did forget to add blood work onto the total costs. It was $60 a month.
Total cost = $42 ( doc. ) + $60 ( blood work ) + $200-$300 ( medicine )
= $302-$402 per month depending on dosage. Monthly costs might be more or less of course depending on where you are.

hoola: i paid $1 for my derm visit + gas expenses, $0 for bloodwork and $0 for the med. i have poor ppls insurance (state) still (my review is this fall, dammit!) so it paid for everything! i asked the pharmacy the cost once because i had taken a job with benefits and would have to take their insurance which didnt cover it and they told me without insurance for a 30day supply of 40mg dosage its approx $1000. OUCH! and thats generic brand too! thatt was one of the reasons i quit that job lol. so prices will be different for you depending on what state your in, insurance, and what dr and pharmacy you use.

Wow, your results are great!
I'm gonna have to look into this. I have the type of acne you had on your forehead on my chin. I get pimples everywhere but I don't have them all the time. I wounder if this stuff is too strong for me...or if that even matters.

Snow White : Damn it. I am so jealous. Do you know what the max annual earning is to get signed up for the insurance? I probably don't qualify, but it might be something I should look into. I wonder in UT has it. So jealous !

Thank for the info Carmen and Snow White! I'm going to look for a derm tomorrow. I was on bc before and it made me break out like CRAZY, it was the worst time of my life and my Dr. switched me to to all different kinds and nothing helped. But if I'm going to be on accutane that I guess that doesn't matter (I hope!) And I need to look for the free insurace stat!
As far as helping with blackheads, well, Accutane is essentially a super-dose of Vitamin A (among other things). It works by drying up the sebum glands in your skin. That's why your skin gets very dry and thin. People's experiences vary--some people saw their skin get worse before it got better, whereas mine started improving right away. I did see an improvement with blackheads, but that only lasted while I was on it. (Because now my pores are back to producing sebum.) However, the really big benefit was the virtual elimination of the cystic acne I would get on my chin, jaw and temples, and the chest and back acne. Those are generally caused by an imbalance of androgen, and Accutane addresses that.

joplin: there are 3 different dosages. i think i was on the strongest one, 40mg. when you go on it youll get bloodwork done each month so the derm can see if its having any neg effect on your body. the derm will be able to figure out which dosage is right for you
carmen: its az state insurance APIPA. im guessing most states would have something similar? the income level is EXTREMELY low. if i remember right about 12k annual income or less. which is why i will be losing it in the fall when my review comes up![]()
