Default i swear i'm not making this up

but while student teaching today, my teacher asks the students for ways to remember voabulary words.
One student said he had a "hot senior tutor" and that she helped him to remember all the words.
So another smart-ass student says "maybe we should just get some strippers in here to teach us the words".
another boy says "we should just go down to the Vu and ask them to help us out".
That was the club i used to work at.
    these are ninth graders btw.
just...wow. I felt wierd and didnt really know how to respond. Luckily this wasn't my lesson which I was teaching and I didn't really have to respond. third day teaching and it comes up already.

A simple "flash cards would be a better option, guys" might work.

I'd say something like, "Well that was very funny, but let's talk about some memory techniques that might actually help you."

Wow, that's kinda crazy. Kids these days!
I would have said something without thinking...like...

"I'm sure the strippers woud LOVE to teach you volcabulary, but it's gonna cost you $20 every 3 minutes"
"I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade.
And try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka and have a party."

GAWD Corgan. Didn't you know this is a perfect website, where only facts are allowed and no one's opinions or experiences!?!?! You have to have data to back up your opinions and proper AP citations

it's hard to know what the majority of teens do, since lying about having or not having sex is as common as ever-- yes, even to survey-givers.

plus, regional variations-- some cities/states/provinces have different 'majority' stuff going on with teen sex lives (or absence thereof) than others.

but to take teens at their word, a lot of that sex isn't exactly consensual for the young girls, which means the sexualisation of the culture is not a net gain for girls, since they report high pressure to do more than they would like and also report performing sex acts that they don't desire to (including pressure to engage in unprotected sex).

otoh, until recently, the reported incidence of teen sex was dropping in the US slowly but surely. it picked up again.

but in general, i wouldn't assume the majority of all teens everywhere are having sex or having sex when they want to at those ages.

Don't worry, I wasn't sexually mature in 9th grade and neither were most of the kids I knew. Strip club culture is definitely more mainstream now than it was 10-15 years ago.

Boys turn into little pervs by Jr High (7th grade). It's all downhill from there, lol. (No, seriously. You'll hear worse.)

My either. I was like 11, I think, but even my friends who were 13 or 14 didn't know much. Definitely didn't know squat about sexual culture. It really suprises me that 9th graders are that informed now. Even the few people that were sexually active back then were still pretty ignorant about things like that.

I wanted to be a stripper since I was in elementary school...I never came across a person at whatever age I was that DIDN'T know what a strip club was....

When I was in high school and people brought up strippers, I just ignored it. They're too young to get into the club anyways. Everything they say is based on what they've heard from other people or stereotypes.

We had 3 clubs right down the street from my school and fellow class mates worked there...no one cared. Now being a teacher and a stripper, is kindda different but strippers aren't really big news to anyone I've encountered.

kind of off-topic, but when did you become a stripper? Was it in hs?
