Can someone tell me why DJ's play the most unsexy songs imaginable during the 2-for-1 "deals"? I mean, if you want to play shorter songs, fine. Hell, they even cut some songs off (some deal), but enough with the 70's and early 80's disco songs. "Pick your favorite dancer for a 2-for-1, and now, here's the lamest strip club music you can possibly imagine!"

It sucks for the customers, and it certainly doesn't inspire the dancers any, dancers who are already upset that they're getting ripped off for their time. It's obviously done on purpose, so WHY?

I swear, a DJ once played Queen's "We Are the Champions" during a promo. I almost went up and smashed the dude's laptop.

I totally agree, and GO RED SOX (Hopefully Ortiz gets off the DL soon)!! What I can tell you from personal experience is that I have to dance to "Girls, Girls, Girls" by Motley Crue every 2 for 1 special at least 5 times a night, followed by whatever gay club remix song the DJ is into at the time. Why do they play that? Because it's practically the only time of the night that they get to play whatever music they want (most of the time us dancers dictate what we want when we're onstage), and they just lose their heads. Please forgive them or tip them to play a song you want (that's what we do). Dropkick Murphys anyone? Go Boston!!!

In all the clubs I've worked where they did promos (thankfully, my current club NEVER does them, and I love them for that!)...the management dictated what kind of music was to be played for the promos. At one club the owner told them to play motown (lol).

So...in my experience it's not the DJ deciding to play crappy promo music, it's the owner/managers.

At my club, they play the crappy dongs during two for ones so that maybe the customers will shell out for the regular priced dances instead.

My DJ said it's done on purpose. The theory is that bad music + empty stage = bordome. So why not go get a dance? And that they're being punished if they sit and stay and listen to it. In fact, if no one is buying he'll drag the song out for about 4 minutes.

Oh, I know. It's quite obvious that it's done on purpose. I'm trying to find out what the clubs think the benefit is, aside from annoying the customers and dancers.

However, the theory is ridiculous if true. Bad music + boredom does not equal "Ooo I better get a dance to liven things up". Good music + beautiful women is what inspires me to get a dance. If all the beautiful women are in the back doing dances to the bad music and I'm bored, I just sit there with my drink and close my eyes til it's over, or I think "Time to get the hell out of here."

All the songs I've ever heard during dollar dances were like "Come on n Ride It, The Train" and "Girls Girls Girls". Stuff for crowd energy I think. But when you're getting a naked girl grinding on your lap for a discount, you can't expect intimacy and thoughtful theatrical planning.

This doesn't answer the question but that is exactly why I quit DJing at stripclubs and never ever would again. I always argued with the dancers over music towards the end. I knew the customers of that club and I knew they wanted to hear rock. The new dancers wanted to hear.....not rock I knew the customers didn't like it and I wouldn't play it b/c then I wasn't enjoying the job anymore (free alcohol or not) so I quit. I still say dancers would make more money if they danced to what customers wanted to hear but I finally excepted I'll never win that argument.

not for nothing but this works really really well with DJ's.......or at least most. Another good idea is find a dancer who will dance to a song you want to hear and tip her extra for it. Even the girls who wanted rock they wanted certain songs so I'd sometimes tell the guy, find a dancer who'll dance to it and I'll play it. I didn't lose anything in that deal b/c I sometimes made dancers extra money that way and they appreciated it.

I agree with your other thoughts, but I shouldn't have to do research at a club, finding out which dancers like what music. I'm not thinking clearly when I'm in there anyway. I don't care if the DJ is playing rap, rock, or some electronic music, as long as it's not terrible and out of place.

So the best answer we've got is that the management makes them play the crap music. Alright.

IMO it discourages guys from sitting around wasting space waiting all night for the two for ones...since they'd rather get a dance to a sexy song then Who let the Dogs out.

    here's a hint:

    2-4-1s

    are not.

you MIGHT be getting an extra minute than a regular song, but that's about it.

that's been the deal at every single club i've worked for, and the music has been corny at all of them during 2-4-1s as well.

it's always really bad 80s/90s pop, or disco or something else cheesy.

oh and, it's always been the GM or owner that dictates at least the genre of music for the 2-4-1s

i think the idea is to make them different from a "real dance" so that the customer might want to purchase "real dances" after the 2-4-1 or so that customers will avoid waiting for an hour to "get the special".

I did it 10+ years ago and it was a different world then. The club I worked in, the club my roommate worked in guys cared about the music. They wanted to see girls dance to certain songs and a certain type of music. But times have changed and at least around her it seems guys are more concerned about being able to grab, grope and extras than even the dancing let alone the music. You don't have to do research. All I was trying to say was find a girl you want the 2 for 1 with. If there's a certain song you want to hear ask her if she'll dance to it. If she will ask the dancer to have the DJ play it during the next 2 for and tip her extra.....or ask the DJ and tip him. Yeah you're paying more but not as much as you would for 2 dances and the dancer is making more than she normally would during a 2 for. Maybe I'm not explaining it well enough. They didn't have 2 for's in the club I worked at but I do know most of the girls I worked with would dance to almost anything for an extra tip.

People listen to the music during a dance?

All I care about is how long is the music going to last. The longer, the better. They could play the 1812 overture and it would make me happy, or the long version of Inna Gadda da Vida.

The 1812 Overture would be much sexier than some of the stuff I've heard. And it has length. That's a great idea, actually. I'll tip the DJ to play a symphony and get the longest dance ever. Badabing!

Thank you Penny. All of what you said seemed to make sense. I find that when I buy repeat dances, it often starts with the 2-for-1.
