    Default Holy Bonneville Salt Flats!!!

Holy crap!!! Tomorrow I am testing a 1970's Honda Goldwing with a sidecar and a 1948 Triumph to see if I can RIDE for a team that's prepping to go to the Salt Flats!!! (for everyone who's seen World's Fastest Indian... yeah, Bonneville Speed Week in Utah- land speed records, etc.) I am so fucking excited. (a little nervous, too... these are VERY old machines!!) The triumph is old-school race style- i.e. you lay flat and put your feet up on the footpegs that are set reeeealllly far back.

I can't believe I get to do this! I dunno quite what 'qualifies' me to go to Bonneville, but I was the only chick on my moto-forums to respond to this post searching for female riders 18-25, fit, single, to ride vintage bikes in Utah.... all over my other chick-rider friends were too old, I guess. This team has an interesting concept with entering in rare classes with rare riders... apparently they've already set 18 records with 5 past female riders, and are now looking for 2 more. Holy shiiiiiiit...... I'll post up some pics tomorrow!!

Oh- the coolest part? This is on a LANDING STRIP at a mini-hangar... WOOT! (i'm not racing, obviously- just testing... but still!!!)

I'm assuming the bikes look kinda like these-
    Goldwing:

    and Triumph:

    YAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

    good luck and be careful!

are going to bring along your bike to really open her up on the flats? i mean, how often do you get to go unlimited speed limit?

HAHA that would be awesome... I'd love to see what she could actually do... without having to worry about getting a ticket. LOL. I doubt it, but I'll see.

And yeah- DEfinitely going to be careful- I'd hate myself if I dropped one of these bikes!! (well, I don't really have to worry about the goldwing, as the sidecar makes it pretty damn stable, but the Triumph, esp. with the different footpeg position... you bet I'mma handle her with all the care in the world!)

Second bike is a Vincent. Rare and coveted by collectors.
If you ride that '48 Trump on the flats you will be the shit! Good luck

^ fack, you're right... it came up in my image search- I knew I'd seen the thing before but I couldn't place it... (it's the 'flying' vincent, of course!) and i couldn't make out the writing on the front fender. thanks for pointing that out.... wow, i feel like a dumbass.

FIxed. now it's a 1948 triumph. (though i still feel like a dingbat)

The old Trumps are works of art in their own right. I'm building a 58 Thunderbird into a chopper w/ a pre-unit Bonneville top end. It should scream.

I'm still jealous of your opportunity though. Let 'er rip!

hahahah well, unfortunately the triumph was a little rickety/unstable/positioned wrong for me (not to mention someone has to get you started, there's a heel-toe shift, and then the brake is on the left side, and you have to get your legs back on the ground from some crazy awkward position to stop yourself...) but i did ride the 'wing-thing! it was super-torquey and once i got it up through the gears it was pretty fast, too! turning was interesting, though... ha!

the guy REALLy wanted me to commit to bonneville- he said i'd be perfect! what SUCKS- it's during finals week! and not only would i miss 2 full weekends of work, but i simply can't get out of class/finals for two classes i haven't even started yet (end of summer session) too bad. well, it was certainly an experience!!!! here are some pics! mind you i'm not wearing any makeup. lol.

Congrats on the ride. That Triumph is nasty with that turbo. I can see where it would take a lot of getting used to before one would be comfortable at speed...if that's even possible. You look like a natural on it though. This is where I get some of my inspiration.
