Default A question for the British ladies

I was emailing with a friend of mine (who happens to be English) and she got all over my calling a school U of Birmingham (the UK one, not something in Alabama) saying they call it Birmingham U. I was just going by the website which says University of Birmingham.

Was she just being weird and picky (she is occasionally a wee bit pedantic)? Is this true? Would I be beaten by a mob of cricket bat-bearers if I called something U of (whatev)?

LOL, it doesn't really make a difference.. actually I had never even thought about it. I suppose yea, most people would refer to the university as "Birmingham University" but its not a british term or anything. If you was to refer to it as the "University of Birmingham" nobody (that I know, anyway) would think anything of it.

So yea, you would be perfectly safe

Maybe she is on her rag LOL

Are you thinking of enrolling in a school over there?

People in Texas get offended if you call the University of Texas Texas University, 'cause that's what their rivals call it. Perhaps that's the case? Though it's not like they have college football there like we do here.

LOL, yeah I think she was just in a mood. I am looking at two schools over there for grad school, because a Masters is only a year generally and then on to the PhD- instead of three years of servitude here.

Oh awesome! What will be your major? Can you get financing (I know you can't the other way around)? Or you will just take out a loan?

Yha if someone said Texas University to me I'd have no idea what they were talking about and then when I found out I would be kind of offended. I can't figure out why I would be offended...but I would.
