    Default Most common stripper stereotypes/misconceptions?

What have you noticed that outsiders incorrectly assume about dancers, like the obvious...

    We've all been molested.
We're all single mothers with deadbeat baby daddies.
We all do coke and are alcoholics.
We're all hookers on the side.

And the not so obvious for LOLZ...
Some woman asked me how do I physically have sex with so many guys - she seriously, innocently thought every guy got fucked during a private dance. She felt so bad for my torn up vagina.
Every guy thinks I'm lying when I say I'm in college.

    CONTRIBUTE!

On hearing I have 3 children I often get the next question of "all the same father?"
Actually I have been married for 20 years and I'm so promiscuous that I have had a whole 2 sex partners in my entire life! (mainly because I married young and have been faithful the whole time)

Oh and the other common response to the 3 kids "Oh now I understand why you have to do this job. I respect you for that"
yeah I soooo hate this job, I get to drink, socialize, flirt, work whenever I want, get paid well. Yeah the sacrifices we have to make.......................

That one day we'll want to get married (because we're all single and just having fun while we're young until the right man puts us in our place) and have to quit.

That we all hate man (possibly these two are related?)

That we roll into work whenever, because we're lazy.

We're single. No decent guy would date us.

We're completely ritch - making thousands per night.

    NOBODY knows we're dancers.

    We really like everyone.

    1) That we're all total nymphomaniacs (I'm a virgin)

    2) That we all date losers (I think a lot of women date losers...not just the strippers! ) But I'm dating the most wonderful person...

    3) If we're in college, then we're stripping because we absolutely must in order to pay the bills.

    4) We all secretly don't like our jobs and would rather be "taken care of" by someone who knows that we're "better than this"

Oh gawd I could go on and on...

I think my most hated is the one about hating my job and wanting to be 'saved'. I love what I do and I probably make more money and have a happier life then the tool who's telling me how sorry he is for me. Argh.

    - that we all go out and party all the time including after work
    - that we must be wild in bed and have lots of 3somes
    - that we all lie about being at college/university
    - that we would have to be off our faces to do this job (that one was from a girl custie)
    - that we have day jobs (well they must think this coz i get asked nearly every night what my day job is - ummm yeh coz i work til 6am stripping then i go work at the office from 9-5)
    - that we will go home with someone if the price is right

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

That we give all our money to a boyfriend who abuses us

That since we give all our money to him, we are broke

We make thousands a night and all drive BMW's (its really funny when I get all these in one night...ummm...am I a rich bitch or a poor whore?)

we all dropped out of high school

we are all in college( again.amazing how contradictory they are!)

We all have several kids and they are always illegitimate and the "baby daddy" is gone and doesnt help. Usually because he's behind bars

We ALL do EVERY drug. And therefore should be SO excited at the offer to go "party" with them or take drugs in exchange for dances.

That we just do this for fun...and have a "real" job doing something else.

well at the risk of sounding oppositional - there are a lot of girls that do exactly all these things. I saw them all the time. worked with them beside them and in spite of them.

^^^ Of course. But there are also a lot of girls who do all of these things who aren't strippers. We're just talking about the stereotypes that many customers try to hold us to (often based on TV shows/movies they've seen, etc.) I've had people come in who assume that we're all exactly like Nomi in Showgirls. Ha!

Yeah we all have worked with girls who do these things. I worked with them in the hospital too..and in the corporate world, etc...etc...etc...

The point is..just because some do fit into the pre conceived notion...that doesnt mean we all do. Yet people assume we are all soulless automatons that are exactly alike.

Sorry if some of these have been said before, I just read the whole thread but I'm sleepy.

    -we're all coke heads
-if we're not coke heads we're students
-we're forced to dance for old nasty smell men, (I've danced for smelly men but I didn't have to do it.)

    The ones I get:

    We do drugs
We will have sex in the VIP
We'll go home with you for very little money
    We're all single
    We're stupid
    We don't like our jobs
We have wild parties after work
We work every day (I've heard it too RL! I work 2-3 times a week, eff that lol)
We get paid to work (not everyone is this stupid but it's getting more common)
We make a lot of money
People lose respect for us when they know what our job is
People won't date us because of our job

Pretty much everything people have said...

Idk why some of you are getting customers who say you are lying about being in school. It seems that customers always automatically assume I am in college and ask me where I go to school. Maybe it is the club you work at or the image you are sending out.

i also get the "what do you do besides this" a lot, sometimes i say sleep, sometimes i say im looking for a day job.
i never get the "work every day" thing. i do work almost every day though and when custies find out they are like "wow how do you do it?"

Anyway the only stereotype I hate because it hurts my money is "you are already rich because you're a stripper, you don't need my money"
Most of the time i average 100-200 a night, but customers seem to think that we make at least 600 every night. They don't believe me when I tell them the truth.

Oh and i dont get this from everyone just the lower class immigrant types and the travelling rednecks- we are soo fucking cheap and disgusting that we allow you to suck our tits for free during a dance. goddamn its ridiculous how many guys are like "wtf why wont u let me suck ur tits, other dancers let me!" when i slap them for trying it.

I don't think it's the club or the image - many strippers are working their way through college and some even lie about it. Some customers think that we lie all the time (that's another one!) and that we use college as a reason to get them to spend more money on us.

Many think we're too stupid to be in school as well. I've been accused of lying about college and I don't present any image to the contrary lol.

OMG I get the same thing from some men, usually Indian. I don't like to prejudge against a certain group of people but I have seen that some of them are really confused as to the difference between "stripper" and "hooker". Then again, some of my best, most polite, customers are Indian. It's just something I've noticed on numerous occasions.

I even said to one Indian guy this past Friday, when he asked if he could get a bj in the VIP that I was a stripper, not a hooker. He said There's no difference to me.

LR, I also get the "working every day comment" HA, twice a week is a good week....Also, noone ever believes me when I tell them I don't have a bf (I do but that's besides the point) I've definetly gotten all of the above mentioned stereotypes -there are so many myths surrounding strippers, its like we're a different species
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

i am prejudiced against indian and middle eastern men for the same reason. i have only met maybe 2 middle eastern men in my life who are decent people and actually have respect for women. the rest all seem to hate women and are cheap as hell and are upset when i say they are not gonna get extras. whats worse is that they brag on and on about how much money they have and then get upset when we say they cant suck my tits for 20 bucks. Persians especially i have found to be super cheap and super disgusting and disrespectful, so if a guy tells me he is Persian, i run.
