Exclamation I need some serious help

I'm hopuing you guys can motivate me and put my bum into gear because this seriously needs to get done!

I have to clean out my apartment, it's such a mess and I just can't seem to do it. I'll clean up a little bit and then just stop because the task overwhelms me so much. I don't even know how I got to this point. I've moved around a lot and when I got into this place a year ago I just threw my stuff in and kept postponing actually cleaning and organizing everything. I work every day and I fell like I just don't have the energy. I'm sick of this, I'm not a dirty person and I loathe coming back here at the end of the night. Ugh. Do you guys have any tips or stories of yours?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take it room by room. I don't know if you read Paige's thread but I posted in there as well. I have a 2 story, 2700sf house and EVERY single room was a disaster. I'm talking pathways just to get from room to room.

Start tomorrow, and pick a room that get the most use. For me, it was the living room.. that's where the front door is and we always watch TV and my son plays in there. I got up one morning and was just sick of looking at it. It took me about 5 hours just to clean the living room but it was well worth it. The rest of the house was a mess, but I took it one room at a time. Since we use the living room the most, even though the rest of the house was a disaster we were able to hang out in a spotless living room. The next day I did the guest bedroom.

It took about a week and I went room by room, but it's pretty clean. We do still have a lot of junk, but it's narrowed down and all in one spot so I don't have to make excuses when people want to come over and I don't have to go out on the front patio and shut the door behind me anymore when people ring the doorbell so they can't see the mess.

Hang in there.. it may seem overwhelming but you'll feel so much better when your apartment is clean. It is very doable, just take it one room at a time and don't expect the whole place to be clean in a day.. or even 3 days.

if the task is too much you can always hire a maid, and they can take care of half the battle, or a personal organizer, if you have that kind of money to toss around.

im a neat freak, so i never let things accumulate. i would suggest doing a room at a time so as to not get overwelmed. make a pile of things for trash, one to donate, and things to keep. go to the store and buy some rubbermaid organizer containers. target has a lot of cute stuff for organizing also. good luck!

Thanks guys! Today I did two bathrooms, yay! haha I feel so pathetic but I keep going in one just to look how sparkly and clean it is I'm off to work for tonight, but I'm going to tackle the bedroom tomorrow.

loveandluxury-Wow, I'm inpressed. That is a huge space to clean up all by yourself.

i.breathe.in-I was/am so tempted to hire a cleaning service but this is just one thing I gotta do myself. I already bough storage containers and cleaning stuff about 6 moths ago, they have just been sitting in a sad pathetic corner and waiting for me to get of my butt.

If it's really messy (like my closet), breaking it down into rooms may not be a small enough task lol.

I really break it down, like closet, pathway to closet, counters, bookshelves. That way, as I get each chunk done, I feel like I've accomplished SOMETHING, and seeing one completely organized space, no matter how small, really motivates me.

And one little piece of motivation. I read an article a few weeks ago about how the average person has about $2000 worth of unused, unwanted stuff that could be easily sold.

I sorted through clothes/bags/old collectibles...and made over $6,000, which really helped since I was car shopping at the time (sell clothes at Platos Closet or Ebay, for instance).

When I started looking at organizing as a money-making activity, cleaning became much more enjoyable

That's a great motivational idea! I got my house cleaned out, but have 2 rooms that are full of crap that I need to go through, but have no desire to. I'll definetely use that as motivation to go through all that stuff!
