Default Need Hair Help! Opinions welcome!!

My hair has been pretty much the same for 10 years now and while I love having long hair I am in a rut. I don't want to cut it all off but I need some ideas of what would look good on me. My hair is extremely thick and naturally wavy and curls really well with mouse but is just frizzy without it. I tried bangs for a few months but both my guy and myself hated them. I love so many different celebrity looks but not sure if anything is right for me. I really want to change my look before I go back to work in a few weeks. I love the pin-up/sex kitten look and I was the "goth girl" for so damn long and I'm just over it. I thought about adding blonde highlights to the front but a hairstylist told me it would look "trailer trashy" so I just left it alone. Any ideas?

    OMG

Your hair is so gorgeous! It's just... the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Is it all virgin (never dyed)? If so, you can give like 8in to charity without making much of a dent. Just so you know.

how did it get so long? Did you do anything special? I want my hair to be that length some day.

I would say some blond highlights would be really pretty for you. Or some nice layers to lessen the "weight" of your hair. Or a nice face frame cut, where the hair around your face is just slightly shorter and makes a nice definition around your lovely features.

I agree with the layers. I think it'd look really sexy with your awesome hair color. Is it natural?

That is my natural color but it's not virgin as I've had sooo many different colors put in it over the years so I guess they wouldn't want it then. I haven't done anything to it though in 2 years other than let it grow and have the ends trimmed.
It grew really fast while I was pregnant 4 years ago. Hubby loves long hair so I've just left it alone. I tried to explain the whole layers thing to my hairdresser but she didn't get it. Does anyone know of a really good hairstyle site with pics? I've found a couple but they had really out of date styles.
I would really like to wow them at work with a different look. I think I'm going to go to the Mac counter and get them to teach me how to do my makeup really smokey and pornstar-ish. I'm such a tomboy most of the time and have never been good with hair and makeup. Here's the most girlie I've ever looked. It took 4 hours to do my hair.

I wouldn't put blond in it either. It really is great how it is. I've never came across a hairdresser who didn't know what layers are...thats weird.

To get the most out of layers, I'd think you'd need to cut it up to bra strap length or a little longer. Would you be okay with it being cut that short?

Will the smoothing serum help hold the straightness from the flat iron do you think? I'm pretty active on stage and the last time our house mom straightened my hair it looked like shit 2 hours into my shift.

She knew what layers where but she didn't understand that I wanted them to start at my shoulders and then work their way down. She said my hair wouldn't lay right that way but I think it would. I really need to find a great stylist I can trust not to cut all my hair off.

yes, you put it on dry hair before you flat iron. its silicon based i believe and will not sweat off. and it smells really good!

That's good about the smell. I bought some anti-frizz serum years ago on my way to work and we had to be on the floor by 4 pm for free payout so I sprayed all this crap in my hair and mid-way through my stage set my hair started smelling like roadkill!! It was horrible! I tried to wipe it out with babywipes it was so bad.LOL Needless to say I didn't bank that night.

As a lot of other posters said I think you would look great with long layers! I have really thick course and frizzy hair and this cut really takes so much weight out of my hair. I would suggest trying out a high quality flat iron. I think Solia is really great from experience. There are a couple of threads under Body Business about great flat irons. What kind of hair products do you use to style? Aveda has a great line for dry/course hair and smoothing products!

I'm such a loser in the whole girlie game that I literally wash and condition my hair every other day and let it air dry. If I'm going out I put Garnier(sp) curling mouse in my hair and go. My roomate has a really nice flat iron,I'll ask her tonight to help me I guess. I'm going to check out the Paul Mitchell and Aveda products too.

It's dry and frizzy right now cause I've been in the pool everyday for the last week. God knows what the sun and chlorine have done to it. It stays in a ponytail most of the time now that it's 100 degrees outside.

When I get layers I tell them to put in as much as they possibly can and then do it again. I like my layers to start at my cheek bones all the way down. In the pic below my hair was about bra strap length. I told her to do "porno hair".

I tried to go to another place (not alternative like the one i went to for that cut) and she told me that it would look like a mullet and grow out all funky...but it never did that the 5 times I had it cut like that before...I don't get it.

long story short, some hair dressers are scared to cut layers in long hair. We have some hair dressers here, maybe they can clarify.

OMG Joplin! You look sooo hot in that pic. I love your hair. I know what you mean about hairdressers all having diff opinions about what your hair can do. We do have a kinda new "alternative" salon in town. I may give them a try. Thanks so much for your help!

You know what's funny? When I started dancing most all the girls were blondes and I got made fun of for my red hair and pale skin and now half the girls in my club have some shade of red going on.

    Thanks Shady

I always liked "alternative" places because they seem to know how to listen to directions. I guess people coming in with crazy ideas gets them used to really trying to figure out how to give the customer what they want, even if it involves getting a little creative.

^^How do you find an "alternative" place? Nobody listens to me when I say "don't take a lot off".

The place I went to was actually a chain in the mall, can't remember the name but all the stylists had tats and crazy hair. If you go to a place that isn't real up tight and see an older "alternative" looking person (they'll have more expirence), it'll probably work out okay but I always ask before I get in the chair.

I agree with the layers, but I would get long layers. Don't mess with the color.

I agree with everyone else... at the very longest, keep the length to right below the bra strap. LOTS of layers from the shoulders down.

For color, I think copper gold highlights would be very pretty on you- highlights just 2-3 shades lighter and the same tone as your current haircolor... it'll give you a soft shimmering effect without screaming HIGHLIGHTS!!! No bueno with the blonde, it's done and dated.
