What would you like to buy?

I'm thinking of opening an online store on Etsy.com, selling homemade foodstuffs. So far I'm planning to offer pickled garlic and hazelnut butter, but I'm trying to think of more things I could pickle and can. I've found some pretty little jars at a good price and I can design nice labels so they'd be good gifts, and I may offer gift boxes as well with combinations.

Do any of you buy this sort of thing? What yummy little edibles do you like to buy?

I'm hesitant to send perishables like dairy and bread. Maybe bread since it's vegan and I could overnight it, but I dunno about dairy butter since there's no way to keep it from possibly spoiling in transit.

Ooh, I just thought of pesto sauce, I could do that too. Properly canned it would be fine. Maybe salsas too? I used to make cayenne pepper salsa, and it was pretty good... could do salsa verde too. Hm.

I normally don't buy that kind of stuff online but I'd definetely buy some of your stuff, especially the vegan bread and pesto.

I'm not real familiar with this either, but possibly some olive oil with mixed in spices and you could add your own touch. You know like the kind they give you at Italian restaurants to dip your bread in? I'd definetely buy that too.. I love bread and dipping oil!

That's a great idea, thank you! I could make the spice mix and package it with a little bottle of olive oil, for people to mix up when they're ready to eat it. I've already got an idea for the spice blend but I'll want to play with it. Thanks for the tip!

OMG if you do salsa, I'd try it in a heart beat. I'm a sucker for salsas. Esp the fruity kinds like peach, mango or pineapple salsas, or really spicy salsas and I love chipotle salsa!

And speaking of lavendar caramel (which sounds interestingly awesome), there's a company called Urban Accents (www.urbanaccents.com) that makes a lavendar lemonade mix ....YUM!

I NEED to try this lavender caramel. Oh my holy dog. It sounds incredible.

Rhubarb jam, THERE's an idea, especially right now while rhubarb is still in season. I'll look into that. Glad to hear the salsas are a good idea, and that's a great tip on the sugar frees because I hadn't even thought of that but I can definitely see a market for it. Thanks for the ideas, I'm still all ears!

I buy potato lefse online, but to make it properly requires a lot of practice, and to amek enough to sell probably requires a bunch of strong Norwegian women mixing, rolling, and frying it.

Almond butter. It should be easy if you are already making the hazelnut butter and at the health food store where I used to shop they made there own and it usually sold out before all the others.

If you were able to ship the bread, sundried tomatoes would be good with it.

Why not put the bread mix you use in a bag and then the customer would add wet ingredients and bake it? That's what I'm buying at the store. I would rather buy yours. You could use that for any muffins, pancakes, etc. you make.

What about your version of applesauce? I buy TJ's now and then.

I forget the exact name -- you probably know what I'm talking about -- but there's a PDX Etsy store, too... I think a lot of those craftinistas get together to pool resources... and things like HandMadeNW... Good luck! Yum yum!
