    Default eczema?

For the past few months I have had itchy little bumps on the back of my knees. First it appeared in between my butt crack and I went to the doctor and she said it was a heat/sweat rash. That seems to come and go. Then behind my left knee I had itchy bumps and that went away and now it's on the back of my right knee. Some days it's itchier than others.

I am going to go back to the doctor to see if it's eczema.

Does anyone know if it sounds like eczema? I did a google search and that seemed to be the common thing coming up.

Google says it is eczema, and I have the same thing. Also in other creases--groin, elbows, below asscheeks.

Someone on here recommended Calendula gel to help irritated skin. I've been using anti-itch steroid cream (like Cortaid), but with extended use, it can thin the skin. I bought some Calendula gel and it works just as well, without the side effects. The key is to apply a liberal amount and rub it in well.

Anyway, it does suck and is annoying, that's for sure. Last year I started out with this (mine also started out at the back of the knees) and ended up with a full-body rash that just about drove me insane and required prednisone to calm down. I was hoping not to have a repeat, but, oh well. The nice thing about the Calendula is that it seems to control the itching, and thus I'm not scratching and making it worse.

If you ever needed a reason to lay out in the sun, UV exposure is also supposed to help eczema.

I have eczema, I've had it since I was little. It only flares up on occasion and a bit of hydrocortisone and I'm ok.

My little boy has it just like you describe and the doctor prescribed Clobetasol cream for it and it makes it a lot better.

I don't know what the hell happened with my rash last year. It started out as itchies in the groin, and I thought it was either sea lice from a trip to the ocean, or jock itch or something. I finally got some prescription steroid cream for it, which calmed that down, but 2 days later my whole body broke out in a horrible rash that took weeks to go away. Ugh. Horrible.

The year before that, I had an 8-month case of hives for no discernable reason. My allergist hypothesized that the eczema was related to the hives.

Anyway, this year I've got the groin itchies and I'm doing my best not to scratch and to just treat it with the calendula gel and Cortaid. The ones on my knees and elbow have faded for now. Hopefully not to return.

And yes, the last two years are the first time anything like this has happened to me. Eczema being the first time last year.

i have eczema...sometimes i get those itchy bumps on my chest in addition to the back of my knees, etc. i find that using aveno lotion and body wash helps keep my skin from acting up...if you can't get to the Dr., try using benedryl anti itch cream...my Dr. perscribed me some steroid cream, but the benedryl works just the same...he told me that my eczema will usually flare up around the same time my alergies do in the summer...so i just use some anti itch cream and slather on some aveno lotion and im good to go.

    good luck

    Just bumping this up.

Is there a test that can be done to determine that it is eczema? If it's the type of eczema caused by allergy can the doctor work out what it is that causes the flare ups?

It can be diagnosed. I remember having it diagnosed when I was 14 or so. I was itching all of the time, esp. in my soft places (inner arms, back of knees). We thought it was allergies and after I spent like a week doped up on Benadryl my mom took me to the doctor. So yes, if you can, see a doctor about it . The prescription medication is effective for breakouts.
