    Default Mono

For those who've had it, or know more about it, how long does it typically last? How long until you were feeling well enough to get on with life? This shit is depressing. I've been sick for a month already, with no end in sight. And evidently there's not much the doctor can do but say 'sorry about those two rounds of pointless antibiotics and the resulting yeast infections. My bad!'

Also, did you give it to people? I was diagnosed with other stuff for weeks, so I didn't stop kissing my boyfriend. (when I was feeling okay). He seems fine though. I'd feel horrible if I gave it to him.

Also also, once I'm feeling 'well enough', is it bad to go to work with mono? I'm fairly certain I got this from work, sharing a cigarette from a girl or something. I can't think of where else, but who knows. Viruses looovvee me. lol

I had Mono for the first and last time about 9-10 years ago. I don't know how i got it but I got dehydrated and had to be hospitalized. Next thing I know they telling me I got Mono! Im like WTF..I think I got it because I had just had my first son and my body was not yet recovered from childbirth and all that..I felt pretty shitty for about 6 months to 1 year at the most...I'm sure that having Post Partum Depression didn't help either..

you poor thing, i can sympathize.
i basically slept for 3 months. very little activity, started eating properly after about 2 months, so the 3rd month was recouperating so i could rejoin the outisde world! (putting on weight, regaining strength)

i wasn't given antibiotics just super strength pain killers for the swollen glands. i'm not sure why you would get given those?

drink LOTS of water. sleep as much as you feel you need to.

i think i contacted it from my best friend after she pecked me on the lips to say goodbye one day. i'm pretty sure it's passed via saliva. if you've been kissing your boyfriend all along, then he probably had it so mildly he didn't realise, or he's not gonna get it.

Antibiotics won't treat mono, it's a virus! I had it twice last year and I am still suffering from a "post viral syndrome". Rest, rest, rest and drink plenty of fluids, you'll feel like you are going to die for a while but the longer you try to keep going the longer it'll linger. Just let your body rest.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I know how hard it is to be sick for that long!

I had it in high school, I spent about a month in bed, I even had to miss my final exams one semester but the teachers were nice enough to give me the mark I had in those classes prior to the final so it wouldn't affect me.

It took me about 6 weeks before I could go back to doing physical activity like doing to dance class and v-ball practice. Even after 6 weeks, I was so tired after it was crazy. I remember loosing a lot of weight and having dificulty concentrating for a while after. I also got tired very easily and would get pain in my abdomen if I was too tired. That lasted the longest, I would say it took me around 4 months to FULLY recover, but still after that I got tired more easily than before.

I doubt you'll wanna go to work anytime soon. The first time you go to work you might find you get tired much quicker than usual and have to take breaks.

But who knows, it's different for everyone, maybe you'll get better faster. Let us know how you re doing.

I had mono like 3 years ago and still to this day had no idea how I got it. I use to work at a restaurant and people are nasty and don't cover their mouths when the sneezed or coughed. So I'm assuming that's how I caught it. I went to the emergency room, cause I woke up in a pool of my own sweat and my glands were the size of ping pong balls. I went and they diagnosed me with strep throat, the bastards misdiagnosed me. So, I went to my private physician after a week of the antibiotics not working for the so called strep throat. I was givin this mentol tasting cough syrup and some antibiotics. I was cured in a week, after that I was back to normal. My body is great for snapping back to normal but I still took it easy for about 3 months.

Yeah, I got the antibiotics because they thought it was strep. I mean, that dumbass doctor didn't even wait for a swab to come back. Then, when I called the receptionist to say I was still feeling really horrible, she was like 'well you're ON antibiotics. Don't come back until you're finished!'. What a bitch.

So when I finished the penicillin, my throat swelled up like a bullfrog and yesterday I saw my actual doctor. She's the one who guessed mono. I'm still waiting on a blood test so I'm not sure yet, but it really makes sense. I was in bed/ on the couch for about two weeks. Now I can kind of do things, but I do get really tired. I'm about to leave for work now at the restaurant. I just got this job and I don't want to tell them I have mono necessarily, in case they fire me. Shit. But I can't talk right now. That's gonna look bad. Oh wells.

    Thanks for the responses, ladies!

Well it's definitely mono. My throat is actually feeling a bit better this morning, which is good. I can't dance again until I can talk, obviously, so I'm glad the throat is healing. I'm basically just tired all the time. They're being nice to me about it at the restaurant, giving me only two shifts a week. It's very tiring, cuz I'm on my feet the whole time, but I can handle it. I just go home and nap after. And then sleep like 10 hours a night. hehe.

Also, I'm taking a summer course at school, and the prof is letting me do the bulk of my work for the latest due date possible. So I'll be okay! I'm not supposed to ride my horse though, in case I fall and rupture my spleen. Oh well.
