    Default Nightmares

I have been having very frequent, very terrifying nightmares lately and it's really stressing me out. They are the kind of dreams you think are real when you are having them and ruin your sleep.

Last night I dreamt that some man was ripping off the skin and flesh on my hands and forearms. He kept telling my boyfriend he would stop if he gave him money, but my boyfriend didn't believe he was really hurting me. I kept screaming for him to help me, but he wouldn't.

The night before that I dreamt that a guy at work cut the tendons on my ankles so I couldn't run, and started trying to rape me. I was screaming and screaming for a bouncer, but no one would help me.

What are the causes of having such horrible dreams? How can I stop them?

Has something stressful happened recently? Do u have anxiety when awake also?

I have problems with anxiety and at times of increased stress I have nightmares.

Also are u eating just before bed? Apparently this can cause vivid dreams but Im not sure if thats a myth or not.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

I've had nighmares my whole life. There are medications for them, but I was never a fan of the side effects.

Try writing them down. Turn them into short stories, poems, pictures, whatever. That seems to help me. Although, no one should ever look at my journal, lol.

    Try having a sleep system.
I suggest turning off the tv and putting on some soothing music. Then think about something pleasant before you drift off to sleep. Have some kava kava tea. It helps put you to sleep.

Try to avoid stress and eat healthy. I find large quantities of stress and bad eating make then much worse for me.

Some medications can do it too.

I'm actually going to call my insurance and ask about coverage on mental health and then go see someone and see what they think. I went to a stress specialist where they hook up up to a machine (my stress levels were off the chart) and teach out how to bring it down...but I can't do those excersizes in my sleep, so I need something else.

Your issues might not be that severe but if they are long lasting it might be good to go talk to someone about them. If I figure anything out, I'll let you know.

I get those occasionally and they bug me all day. Chocolate before bed is my trigger.

Stress, trauma, anxiety, eating sweets before bed, alcohol, certain meds - there are alot of causes. Try to figure out if you changed something recently around your bedtime.
