    Default Suboxone

Does anyone here have any experience either personally or through someone close with Suboxone?

My "athlete boyfriend" is heavily addicted to Vicodin and Xanax, taking both in large quantities and going on binges, only to detox himself every week or so when he either runs out of sources or cash. His family takes his pills and throws them away so when he wakes up from his stupor he spends hours looking for them. His parents have to control all his assets and aspects of his life.

He is very sick and needs help. I know I can't save him but I wish I could talk him into taking Suboxone and getting off the opiates. I brought it up to him today and he said he'd rather just go through withdrawals and be sick because he heard Suboxone causes headaches.

It's so sad b/c he's just not the same person and capable of far more when he's off drugs but he just doesn't care. I know he has to want it for himself and sometimes he does, he just seems to always go back to the pills every time he detoxes from them. I'm afraid he's going to kill himself with that combination and large quantity.

I gave his pills to his mother the other day and when he woke he spent hours asking me what he did for two days and then ransacked my house. He even left his gun out.......not good.

Anyone know how this stuff works?

I've never heard of it..but they have a site where they will send you a free resource kit. http://www.suboxone.com/ Maybe order him one and you and his family do an intervention about how this is affecting you guys? Maybe knowing it isnt just about him will make him want to try.

    It does say this:
    9. Why do I need to be in withdrawal when I start SUBOXONE?
    A:

It is important to be in mild-to-moderate withdrawal when you take your first dose of SUBOXONE. If you have high levels of another opioid in your system, SUBOXONE will compete with the other opioid molecules and knock them off the receptors. SUBOXONE then replaces those opioid molecules on the receptors, but because SUBOXONE has less opioid effects than full opioid agonists, you may go into withdrawal and feel sick. This is called precipitated withdrawal. If you are already in the first stages of withdrawal when you take your first dose, SUBOXONE will make you feel better, not worse. Once your doctor has assessed your withdrawal symptoms and decided that you are ready to start SUBOXONE, you will begin Induction.

And it doesnt list headaches as a side effect:

    Commonly reported side effects
Side effects of SUBOXONE are similar to those of other opioids. The most commonly reported adverse events with SUBOXONE include: headache (36%, placebo 22%), withdrawal syndrome (25%, placebo 37%), pain (22%, placebo 19%), insomnia (14%, placebo 16%), nausea (15%, placebo 11%), and constipation (12%, placebo 3%). Please see full Product Information for a complete list. You may already be experiencing some of these side effects because of your current use of opioids. If so, let your doctor know. Your doctor can effectively treat many of these symptoms.

SUBOXONE can cause blood pressure to drop. This can cause you to feel dizzy if you get up too fast from sitting or lying down.

^^^ maybe the "headache" thing was just an excuse to not take it. Thank you for the info, I appreciate the time you spent to look it up, I've been researching it but reading so much kinda whirlwinds me at times.

I wonder if he took it if he'll still crave the high he gets from the pills?

His mom is about to ask to be put on the Intervention show, at the risk ofembarassment of the family name.........I wish she would.

Hey, I didn't see yout at DEMF this year. The dancing guy was there again. lol

Anyway, I've taken suboxone. Only for 4 or so days. My primary care prescribed it and the pharmacy filled it. The she realized only addiction specialists are licensed to prescribe it. lol I was high as a kite while taking it, then totally crashed. My experience would have been better had I known to seek help from an addiction specialist. I know some other people taking it for a much more serious vicodin addiction. (8-16 pills a day) They were urged to receive inpatient treatment. All declined with varying results.

I can go into greater detail via phone about the psychology of the addiction, the risks of dysthymia and/or severe depression if not treated properly etc.. I opted for therapy to relearn my anxiety coping skills I didn't need while on vicodin. Learned quite a bit in those few months and am now going into neuroscience specializing in neurogenesis. PM me if you don't still have my number.

If he's only taking Vicodin, he could detox rather easily. Trust me. It's better than getting into a long-term maintainence program like Suboxone or Methadone.

But if he does go the Suboxone route, he can go online and find a doctor in his area who will prescribe it. It completely takes away withdrawal symptoms and prevents you from getting high on any opiates. In this way, it is the perfect drug. On the other hand, if he still wants to use and is only doing it to appease his family and you, then it won't work. He'll just stop taking it and find more opiates.

You can't force someone to stop doing drugs. You can have all of the interventions you want, but they won't do squat unless he really wants to stop. And anyway, I doubt they'd put him on the show just for taking Vicodin, which really is the baby step of opiate addiction. If he continues, he'll start looking for stronger opiates and taking more and more. I've been down that road and it happens much faster than you'd imagine.

I appreciate your reply; however as my original post states he is taking Vicodin and Xanax HEAVILY- I'm talking handfuls at a time sometimes within 30 min of doses. He's taking anywhere from 8-30 Vicodins a day plus eating 5-10 Xanax bars. The high he gets is similar to that of herion.

He's lost everything......house, friends, $100k+ company, Navis, even been selling his guns lately. Last week he didn't travel to his tournament so he's probably kicked off his team. It's deeper than you could imagine. I've seen plenty of addiction but nothing like this ever before.

He doesn't want to go to the doctor, his mom will pay for the Sub & I know ppl who have it. Sometimes he does want to quit, other times the drugs take him over and he's a maniac.

ISOLABELLA- heyya.......yeah I'd like to talk to you, it sounds like you know a bit more about the situation here.
*DEMF was awesome this year, Dubfire was insane, Lee Burridge was sick, Richie Hawtin was----well- Richie Hawtin lol! You probably didn't see me cuz I took my boy who's handicapped down there and stayed with him entire time in corner of Beatport tent. He's crippled after going into coma from mixing wrong pills (Xanax & Methadone) and is learning how to walk again.

    PM me your number please!

I don't mean to threadjack my own thread but I thought I saw the dancing guy in the beatport tent! I tried explaining to my boys but it was indescribable how he danced so happily last year lol!
I went with all my boys and hung out with Molly teehee. I wish I would've seen you! I lost $450 cash at DEMF this year and had to borrow money to park last day but all my friends helped me out- it was nice to find out who my friends are!

I'm just saying that Vicodin is one of the weakest opiates and he will probably escalate and start trying to find stronger pills. The biggest danger in taking that much Vicodin is the acetominophen. It can do serious harm to your liver. That's why most opiate addicts go for oxycontin or other pills that don't contain apap.

I hope he gets the help he needs, but he's got to want it. The best thing you and his family can do is not enable him or help him in any way regarding his addiction. Sometimes the tough love approach is the best way to go. Good luck.

Thank you, I understand what you are saying. Sometimes he wants hep, then the pills take him over and he's out of control. He falls asleep standing up and nods off all the time, so embarrassing.

I understand Vicodin isn't as strong as Oxy's or Roxy's but 40 mg of hydrocodone + all the acetominaphene mixed with 4 mgs Xanax could turn lethal at any time.

Last week he told me of someone telling him to insert the pills as a suppository so as to bypass his liver...........and he was actually thinking about it- he's gone off the deep end.

How much does one have to lose to realize they need help? He has a great job opportunity, is a professional athlete and throws it all away. Sickening.Sad.

That's not how it works. If it's in your bloodstream it goes through your liver. So it wouldn't matter if he stuck it up his ass, it would still be filtered through the liver.

If he's really worried about it he could try a cold water extraction:

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this because I've been through about the same thing with my brother, my ex-fiance and a close friend. IMO oxy's and other painkillers are the devil. They will drag the addict and everyone around them through the worst kind of hell.

My brother has been on suboxone for about a year now and is doing relatively well. He has no desire to go back to the oxy's. His body is dependent on the suboxone, but at least he's under a doctors care. He hasn't begun to taper his doses, which worries me, but at least he's in the hands of a professional.

My friend has been on suboxone for about 2 months now. He claims it's the best thing to ever happen to him, as he's been addicted to oxy's and other painkillers for years and never thought he could quit. Suboxone has eliminated his cravings for other opiates but he worries about coming off of suboxone.

And then there's my ex. He has not gotten any treatment in the form of suboxone or any other therapy. His life continues on a downward spiral. It makes me so sick with regret to see him that way. I realize that suboxone is no panacea and has it's own pitfalls. But when I see my brother and my friend beginning to pick up the pieces of their lives and compare them to the hell that is my ex's life right now, I have to say that suboxone is the lesser of two evils.

Good luck to you and your boyfriend. PM me anytime. I have plenty of experience with this kind of thing, I'm sorry to say. You will need plenty of support through this.

Dancing Guy WAS at beatport. We (E and I) spent a lot of time at beatport. We'll be there next year. We stay at the Marriot Courtyard (we used to live in Toledo and go to all the good parties up in Detroit). GOD if only they had SOMETHING like those parties here in DC. The best was Carl Craig!!! OMG I was so drunk, and running around like an ass. Then dancing like crazy.
Sorry to partake of the threadjack. I don't know anything about suboxone other than Artie Lange took it and it helped him with his addiction.

    teehee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DID see him.........only he wasn't dancing like "happy dance guy" when I saw him- but I knew it was him!!!!

I just want to keep happy dancing guy as a pet and keep hi in a room feeding him lettuce and water, pinching his cheeks. I'll slide him pizza under the door once in awhile to keep him happy and send MOLLY to dance with hiim when I'm in the mood for entertainment lol!
