So my band and I needed a back up vocalist/guitarist. This guy responded to our ad (for a guitarist/vox) and we sent him a track to overlap his vocals on to audition for us. He did and it was great.
So we were all like 'awesome, welcome to the band'.
It's then that he tells us he has limited experience with guitar or keyboard and doesnt know either really well. But wants to learn.
Problem is, we have to go on tour by January. So my band and I were like....."wha?...... ok I mean, he's gonna try... so... yeah he'll be fine" trying to reassure ourselves.
After sleeping on it, and talking about it, we decided its just best to let him go because what we needed was a skilled guitarist and back up vocals. (Which after closer hearing what he sent us, it was obvious it was edited with effects to mask some stuff) and we must must must record everything soon, so theres no time for him to learn basics.
We told him (about 20 hours after we welcomed him, and found out his inexperience) that maybe it wasnt gonna work out.
He reacted badly. And wrote a really scary bulletin on myspace about how depressed he is and there is no hope anymore.
I tried messaging him and talk to him. Today he said it was just hard to take, and couldnt believe it, that he was so stoked about being in our band and that it was a huge letdown.
I'm so lost. How do I fix this?
We can't have him in our band. But I wish I knew what to say. I feel like we fucked up bad.
