    Default jury duty?

can i get out of jury duty you think by putting my club down as my employeer? or would i still be called but just sent home?

and please dont say i shouldnt be trying to get out of it. i only have 7 working days with my kids at my day job over the summer since i only work part time, i'm taking the first day off since it's only 6 days after my BA, and i'm taking the last week off because i'm going on vacation with my family. i don't want to miss another day(or more), and especially not *know* if i'm going to miss it.

i really dont even need to get out of it, i just need it postponed.

i'm also thinking about writing in saying i'm having surgery and not sure if i'll be able to get there.

You can use your children as a reason. No childcare.

The club isn't your employer, and even if they were it wouldn't matter. It's pretty hard to get out of jury duty if they pick you, but they might not pick you. I've been called twice and both times I just sat around the room waiting but I never went in for jury selection. About 1:30 in the afternoon they told us we were done and wouldn't be called again for a year.

in md it's easy to get rescheduled! i've been rescheduled for vacation before. if i have to sit around missing a day of work i'll still be out and in that case i may as well just have taken the summer off bc they were looking for volunteers to just come back in the fall.

lol yeah.. i just need it rescheduled because since it's the summer session at the school, we have new kids who will need to adjust. i'm going to be out so much as it is that i want to be there every day possible to make it easier for them. unfortunately, that won't be a good enough reason for the courts.

i think i'll just write a letter saying i'm having surgery 2 weeks prior and will not be able to attend, even though the surgery won't really stop me.

I think she means the kids at her day job that she has. I'm not sure though, but I didn't think she had children. If she does her body if BANGIN' (not that it isn't anyways
You're supposed to be able to get out of jury duty once without extreme explanation. If you say you're having surgery then you should be able to get off scotch free. If you've already denied jury duty once then you have to serve. They require you to move your schedule around unless there are certain circumstances (like sole provider).

I hope these helps. It looks like you're going to have to go at least the first day. You can try mailing the court and explaining that you have medical reasons (surgery) and am unable to make it, but after a recovery hearing you are willing to serve. Or you can just make an idiot out of yourself if you're ok with the idea, like the one article says. They want normal non-judgemental people.
My sister didn't want to go on jury duty and did the most radical thing. She flat out said "I already know the man's guilty...he's black." She was asked to leave immediately. Whether or not she believed it I'll never know but she didn't serve. It's all up to your comfort level, and if the court will exempt you for your surgery.

ETA: that took too long, there was only one response when I started typing

It's extremely boring. It was one of the most boring experiences of my life. I did it when I was 20 years old and I remember just a lot of sitting, standing up for the judge, sitting again. I never served on a jury since all the cases I went to were settled out of court.

The only way to get out of it is if you are in school, and even then they will simply postpone the time to your next school break.

I want to be summoned for a serial killer's trial. Now THAT would be cool.

You can call the number and postpone it. I did that. They even let me choose the date. You don't have to give a reason. Just say that there's no way that day will work for you, can you choose another. It should be fine

When they ask you questions for jury selection, you could give fucked up answers and not be selected for the trial. Bad part is, they may keep you as a standbye juror and that will be even more boring than sitting through a trial.

Well i dont know where u live but im in philly and we get jury duty summons like once every 3 years. i did it once, wrote i was on meds(lie) and they didnt choose me.

Well every 3 years like clockwork i get a summons and i just tear it up.
they send 2 or 3, always with a warning that you could be fined or sent to jail.
anyways so for the past 6 years i have not gone.
but again, i think it depends where you live and how strict they are.

Are you registered to vote? That's not fair, I get summoned regularly.

Yeah, Britt, try to have it postponed. Or don't show up.

Yup, I'm registered. The only thing I can think is that with a judge and a few attorneys in the family, they don't want me on a jury.

No... not showing up would cause all sorts of headaches.
Im not sure of the details but if I remember correctly, you can get fined for that kinda thing.

^^^yes you can get fined. And depending on where you live you can be arrested and brought in and charged with jail time. I've never heard of it happening, just read that it COULD happen. I'm not sure how bad the fines are either, but I'm sure it varies.
