Price?Seriously, I think it would mean the amount of preparation/skill involved in making the food, and the freshness and quality of the ingredients. There isn't really a strict definition; as you've probably seen frozen TV dinners labeled "gourmet".
I've always wanted to try a burger made with Kobe beef.
I think it's different from "homestyle" traditional cooking- fresh ingredients, unique presentations and different styles of preparation. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my interpretation.
Luxury ingredients. Some gourmet meals are actually very simple to prepare, they just use fine ingredients like expensive truffle oil, rare meats, or heirloom vegetables. Presentation plays a big part too.
Oh, and R-209, Kobe burgers are AWESOME. Kobe anything is incredible.





That's all it takes to make a meal gourmet? I guess I've been gourmet my whole life then. Go figure.
