    Default Endometriosis

Anyone have it or know anything about it?

a friend of mine recently had surgery for endometriosis and cysts. Apparently, the doctor said she had one of the worst cases of endometriosis he had ever seen. In fact, she had it so bad that it caused her to ovulate the entire month, instead of just once.

The strange thing is, I knwo endometriosis causes infertility. She has 2 kids. She just had her second kid a year ago....if she had such a severe case, how was she able to concieve? And it causes ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages....was she just lucky? Is this just a strange case?

I just don't understand...cause it goes against everythign I know about the disease.

funnily enough, even tho it can affect fertility one of the only "cures" to the disease is having children. my friend is an example of this. she had it terribly and had to have several surgeries as a teenager and young adult. after she had her first child she never had any symptoms again.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

Oh, shitballs, I am soooo able to help you out here.

1st off, the most helpful thing EVER for endometriosis is 's mailing list for "Endometriosis Support."

I have a textbook case (hereditary origin, started in my mid-20s, etc.) Some women can get it from botched tubal ligation surgery.

Doctors used to tell women to get pregnant to cure endo....This is not true.

    Other fine resources are :

Edit to add- some women can still concieve- it all depends on how the disease has altered/affected their reproductive organs. One case can vary widely from the next. The sites listed above can give you statistics on this matter.

i know a lady who had two healthy pregnancies with fibroids and endo. but the third nearly killed her (incomplete miscarriage of a malformed, dying fetus, had to be d&c'd out of her). none of this helped her endo or fibroids. she got a complete hysterectomy after the third pregnancy and has just a much happier and healthier quality of life. sometimes it is the best way to go, though it is a pretty extreme solution.

On the pregnancy and parenting website I am a member of, there are many, many women who have been able to conceive naturally and have gone on to have healthy successful pregnancies. Actually, there is a forum on there specifically related to women who have conceived while suffering from conditions such as endo and PCO etc.

Funnily enough, many women suffering from endometriosis are able to conceive after having a laparoscopy (an exploratory and diagnostic procedure)

Oh and yes, pregnancy doesn't cure endometriosis or PCO; that is a myth. The symptoms are suppressed but one is not cured of the disease.

I was diagnosed w/ Endometriosis at the age of 16. It does cause infertility, in some women, not all. I'm curious, why did her doctor say she had one of the worst cases he'd seen? What kind of surgery was performed on your friend?

For me, I had a laposcopicpy (sp) done. Then I was put on Depo-Lupron for 9 months. This basically put my body through menopause. During that time I had to take calcium supplements. Then I got put on Depo-Provera.

I will always have Endometriosis, there is no cure.

I have and cysts as well. I just live with it, so I guess it's not that bad. Painful, and a pain in the ass though.

My aunt just had a full hysterectomy last month due to her endo.

She has one daughter, who is 9 years old. But prior to that, she had 3 miscarriages.
