    Default Tulum, Mexico

I'm planning a trip for september and I'm sooo excited. Anyone been there? Besides the ruins (obviously), what's great to see and do in the area? We'll be there for 2 weeks in our beach cabanas (squeee!!) and we're renting a car so we can travel a little. Any advice?

OMG, I love Tulum!!!! I went there last January. It's beautiful. The water is amazing. I was able to stay in the water for literally an hour at a time. There are lots of activities to do in the area. My recommendations:

-Playa del Carmen (lots of restaurants along 5th avenue)

    -day trip to Isla Mujeres

-I went horseback riding one day, which included riding into the ocean

-visit a cenote (cave) they're all over the area and absolutely amazing--one of the unusual features of the Yucatan

-Chichen Itza--now one of the seven wonders of the modern world (I was a history major in college so of course I had to go there!)

oh what's Isla Mujeres? How do you get to it and what do you do there?

I'd love to see a cenote. I'll definitely check one out. Your suggestions are great! Are all restaurants safe to eat in?

Isla Mujeres is AWESOME! I went there when I was in Cancun on my honeymoon, If you like silver jewelry, bring some money because they have handcrafted silver and turquoise ALL OVER the island and it is GORGEOUS!!

i love tulum! I want to go back soooooooooo much!

We went to this amazing waterpark, it's not a waterpark in the way i thought it would be. No rides or slides. This is so much cooler. Dolphins and you can snorkle, or snuba and it's so beautiful. http://www.xcaret.com/cancun-mexico.php

Also we went to this beautiful sink hole. Aktun Chen, it was amazing to swim in! http://www.aktunchen.com/home_eng.html, here is a better photo of it http://flickr.com/photos/canbalci/2246182868/.

I hope you have fun on your trip! I'd love to go back someday!

well the reason I picked tulum is because last year we stopped there on our cruise for a few hours and the ruins were just soo amazing I wanted to go this year and really check things out.

I stayed at a Tulum Resort a year ago.... it was SUPER nice!!! I was a bit disappointed with the night life in Playa Del la Carmen but then again I think we tried it on a weeknight. It was mostly older couples around when I went.
I even went to a little straw-roofed strip club called "Chilly Willies" or something like that.. It wasn't TOO too bad, but the girls were openly doing more than dancing, kissing customers, etc. It was a high cover charge, too like $25.
I have pics, but I think you can imagine- white sand, beautiful ocean, sun (hopefully!)
    Have a great time!!

I'm going to Cancun on Thursday morning and this thread made me so excited.

I highly recommend either Xcaret or Xel Ha. You can snorkel, see a lot of exotic animals, swim with dolphins... it's awesome. And, of course, Chichen Itza, but it sounds like you're already planning on visiting the ruins.
