Default For those of you who are "out" right now.....

Ok, this is a question for everyone who is not dancing right now at all. You quit "for good"and don't have any plans on going back any time soon. Keep in mind this thread is directed at us who have completely hung up our heels, because we weren't one of the lucky ones who still are banking, aren't affected by the issues happening right now, and are still happy strippers.
I understand there are alot of you still out there who pull impressive numbers, don't have issues at your club with extras girls and whatnot....
If I was in that position I wouldn't be here posting this!
I get alot of responses to my thread about "being negative" and I really am not trying to be, I'm just very curious about this......

So, lets say, hypothetically, and I DO mean hypothetically, a few years from now things completely change.
The recession ends, people start making money and going out again, extras girls are finally eliminated (meaning clubs finally start to crack down on it like they should) and the business just takes a turn back to the good in general.

Would you go back? I think I would.
The reason I thought of this is because I was rearranging our bedroom the other day, and didn't know what do to with my big plastic storage tubs of stripper stuff. I was thinking about getting rid of it all, except for a pair of shoes or two. Then I started thinking......fuck I'm only 27, I have many years of hotness left, what if things turned around a couple years from now and I could go back to dancing a few nights a week, making the kind of money I was making 10 months ago?

Maybe (hopefully) by then I'll have a job where I wont need to dance again, maybe not? Who knows what the future holds. if I could go back one night a week and bring home 600 dollars in cash, then why not, right?

    So, would you?

I'm hanging up my heels Labor Day weekend, if a few years down the road things were like you stated and I was still in good shape, most definitely.

Shit, if it were like that now I wouldn't quit.

I'm only semi-retired now but yeah, I'd go back in a second if all that happened. I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen though. You can't put the genie back in the bottle.

I would definitely go back if the money dramatically improved. It just got to be "not worth it" to go in and only make a couple hundred bucks.

It would have to do a serious 180 for me to even think about dancing around here anymore. There are still one or two places I might dance here and there when I get the bug to travel...otherwise...not worth the stress anymore to leave with no money and the feeling that I have to boil my skin and seek therapy every night.

The thing is, by the time you're in your late 20's or 30's, you can make better than super stripper money in something like sales (pharmaceutical, software, etc), nursing (by specializing), or starting your own business with the skill set you obtained or strengthened by dancing (plus a little schooling, of course). We learn sales, how to relate to almost all people on many levels, how to prioritize our energy, etc. Don't go back. Move forward! I don't see it getting any better EVER, but I'm stuck here for now until I graduate school and get a little business venture up and running.

I hope that when i'm in my 30's I won't have time to strip any night of the week, cause I'll have some bomb ass job and have my shit together.

I still think I'm gonna hold on to all the gear, just incase

    What ViolaStrings said, basically.

    I'd like to, but...

Right now I'm making like $500/week, which is like 2 shifts. I also get health benefits and retirement benefits. People who have been in my job for longer (5-7 years) who are better are it make $1500+/week. It's a salaried job plus commission and I live less than a mile from work. On my not-busy days (2-3 days a week) I take 2 hour lunch breaks. I see all of my friends on a regular basis because I'm not working when they are out of work. We make dinners and go out for drinks.

I think that my projected earning potential in this job is only going to increase, and my ability to save money and manage money (I have 2 IRAs! A high yield savings account! I pay rent every month 2 weeks before it's due!!! I go out for sushi a lot!) is drastically improved by staying the course here in this position. Especially in PDX (a city with about 2 VIP rooms), the earnings potential in dancing is rare.

I've thought about dancing like once a week. But when? I'm not giving up my Friday or Saturday or Sunday. My job is 9:30-5:30 (5 on Fridays!). I don't want to work like 7pm/9pm-2:30am and be all sleep deprived.

Maybe do Sinferno once a month or something (local weekly burlesque/crazy showcase).

I think about myself in the club and I can't really fathom it. Back when I was in college, and right after I graduated, I loved the freedom of stripping. And the glamor and the taxis and the makeup. But eventually it got to me and very very badly.

There's a lot I miss about dancing but I think I've moved on. The main thing I miss is the exercise and getting to perform. I had a good run with dancing but I stopped being happy, eventually. I stopped loving performances and these temporary connections and started to loathe all the guys.

    By the way...
The last day I ever danced in a strip club was December 5. Then I got a job working part time through livejournal from Jan-Feb. In February I got hired at my current job (it's much easier to get a job when you already have one). I see myself working for this company for 3 years or so. So it took me about 2-3 months to fully transition into the 'workplace'.

I'd cut off my own arm for $500 a week right now. Well, not really, but you get my point....

I hadn't made $500 a month my last two months stripping. I stayed and "thought positive" as long as I could before losing it.

For real... like I said in my other post, I have a bustling social life and hate giving up my weekends now, instead of thinking that a Saturday night was $$.

And I do still have that box of stuff.

I pass by my stripper bag every day. I don't think I'll fully retire it until I don't have the body anymore. If I wasn't in school then I would probably go to the money. I made a mint and had fun at Big Louies in Missouri (5+years ago), but it's such a haul to get over there anyway.
I used to make $300+ every single night I worked here in the panhandle. That was four years ago and every year since has gone down about $50-75. When I started worrying about making tip out (under $20) on a regular basis, that's when I quit. I even tried a few other clubs around here....even as a "new girl" I did no better.

It would depend on where I was in my life. If it were to happen in the next few years, probably yes.

I'd go back but I'm not the kind of person who only holds down one job. So I'd moonlight as a stripper a few days a week. But I'd never do it as my sole income. I'd go crazy. I went crazy when that's all I did before. Gotta have balance.

i was banking when i quit. i didn't quit because i personally wasn't making money. it's just that all stripping had to offer at that point was some money, and other options i learned about around that time offered comparable or better money. that said, things would have been pretty interesting at that time in my life if i'd been making 2k or more every shift (not doable as a norm in the non-hourly VIP clubs i worked). i might have struggled through the burnout, or perhaps never burnt out at all.

but as someone who danced because she liked men and liked making them cheerful, i left because i started liking only my husband (fiance at the time) and just couldn't be around other men that way anymore.

i also left because most of my burnout was the racial crap from other dancers because i did too well without extras (and that happened in clubs with no extras and good earning potential), not so much customers asking for sex or being rude-- the customers i personally bothered with were good to me and generally hassle free and generous.

so i suppose if my husband died and earnings potential were 2k/shift as a low or even medium end and i could make that without getting hassled by other dancers for a stage covered in money or a signout sheet full of VIP hours i'd done, then i might be sitting there considering stripping in clubs again.

I've been pretty much retired for almost a year, as I only danced once in the past 10 or so months. I really enjoy my current career, which is something I can do for the rest of my working years. I would, however, dance a bit to pay down some of my student debt. I don't have that much, but it would be nice to not worry about it. I can't dance close to where I live, though, so I'd have to do it on semester breaks or whatnot.

Yep, If all that happened hen I would probably go back. And I would dance at a club I wanted to dance at instead of the one I hate but has money. I quit about 2 months ago and I still haven't gone back for my stuff. I'm not even sure if I will before I move out of state next week.

I'm heading into my final year of dancing but I question if I will actually last that long. If stripping were to change back from this strange deranged phase it's in I would love it. I miss plain old stripping. But there are so many factors, not just a recession, that have made it what it is today.

    I honestly don't know...
Aside from money, there were so many things I loved abotu dancing....and there were so so many things I hated.
I just don't know if the good outweighs the bad...Unless I was making like, a grand a shift, garunteed. Then yeah. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Nope. I'm too old to ride out a slow time in the industry. My feet can't take it anyway. I've got the foot equivelent to carpal tunnel from dancing in heels for all those years, anyway.

I'm happy with my current role in the industry. It is still fun, but with no grinding and more comfortable foot wear.

^^Yeah... I like being able to hang out on SW and look through the strip club mags while I'm at work... and a lot of my friends are still actively involved enough in the scene that I feel 'caught up' with what's going on.

Now I actually go out and PAY to dance, which is crazy!!! (Like $5 for 80's night at the dance club...)

^ I'm just glad to read this thread. My first night of dancing wasn't as fun as I thought it would be even though it was about as profitable as I was hoping for. There are certainly other ways to make good money. Dancing isn't the only way.

I've thought about going back a few times just to make some extra cash. Not on a full time basis but just one or two nights a week at the most. I miss the rush I use to get when getting up on stage after not being up there a while. I miss the sexiness I use to feel. It forced me to stay hot and keep myself in good shape.

Now, I don't have the time or energy but I think if the money was there and I knew a decent place I could go and not be discovered I'd probably do it again. Just knowing you can do it again means a lot. I have a little work to do on my body if I went back now but I have changed a lot as a person in some ways for the better and in others way not.

QFT. While I know my job performance is great and that I'm not in imminent danger of getting fired, I could. And then I could strip again 'til I found another line of work. Knowing in your blood that you CAN is what's important.
