    Default atypical cervical cells

I recently got diagnosed with having atypical cervical cells.
I am negative for cervical cancer, but I still am worried.

there is NO dysplacea only the ASCUS (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance)—Borderline, some abnormal cells (copy and pasted)

I just got over a nasty bout of BV and got a pap at the same time I had it. I know i should really talk to the doctor if im really freaking out but with no health care it's hard to make appointments. has anyone had this? does it mean anything? should I be freaked?

Nothing can be done other than monitor. Get your paps every year and have it tested. This is from E who supports the HPV test. He now knows A LOT about "womens health". More than me...eeks.
If I remember correctly this is actually very common, and if you're negative for cervical cancer than there's no need to worry about it. There's really nothing you can do anyways except let your body do it's thing (whatever that really means).

don't worry about it. i had an abnormal pap last year, so my doctor suggested i go back in 6 months for another, and when i got the results back, the cells that were atypical were almost completely gone. it could be a surface thing and they go away as your body regenerates. it also could have something to do with your BV or if you had a sex a day or 2 before you got your pap, i know that affects it too. have you checked your area for free clinics? there are a couple in my area that are a lot more inexpensive then going to my ob-gyn, because i am without insurance too. good luck!

It's quite possible that the BV made a difference in the outcome of your pap, however you really should discuss it with a doctor. If you don't have health care than go to the clinic. It's better to discuss it than to sit and worry about it.

You may also have HPV (which there are over 80 different strains of) a sexually transmitted disease that apparently they don't know as much about as they try to convince us they do. I was diagnosed with HPV when I was 15 and didn't even know what it was. They didn't teach it to us in school and I was pissed and freaked at the same time. I actually had 5 different strains and they chose to do a fulgeration, where they laser the bad cells off of my cervix. It was mildly painful, nothing major, and done as an outpatient procedure. My paps have come back NORMAL for 8 years now! Since some strains of HPV can put you at risk for cervical cancer I'd go back and have a repeat pap just to be safe... when you don't have an infection.

If she had HPV, that would have shown up in the pap, and she would also probably have cervical dysplasia...(I'm in the same boat as you, I had a LEAP procedure to get the bad cels off my cervix, and knock on wood my paps have been coming back normal too! WOOT!)

^^I thought the only symptom of some strains of HPV are the funny cells themselves? That's the impression I got from the doctor. No one ever said 'you have HPV', but they implied it was the case because of the cells. I never had any symptoms except for the funny pap.

BV can cause an abnormal pap. Your doctor should prescribe some antibiotics and rescheule the pap for 3 months and recheck to see if that fixed the problem.
if not....then monitor with pap's every 6 months to see how thigns are going.

I dont think you have to have dysplasia to have HPV, just in many cases. I think that abnormal cells ( and no infections) points to HPV. ( with no other symptoms)

There are almost a hundred strands of HPV. 90 percent of people who have had more than one partner have at least one. Most are harmless. Some cause warts and four strands cause cervical cancer.

When you have an abnormal pap, they can swab you again and tell you what strands you have. I have one of the four. ( I believe it's strand 18 but I could be wrong) Some people could have all four, or just one

I'm actually realy surprised that they didn't test you further to find out what was going on "down there"....My doc called me on the phone (which I knew was bad news as soon as I knew it was him and not the nurse calling, UGH) to tell me he suspected something was wrong and to come back in...I really suggest if that's what happened and your pap smears still aren't coming back normal to find a different doctor, BC that's odd...normally HPV is treated quite agressively bc it can cause cancer...Don't worry to terribly, bc I believe it typically takes five to ten years for these cells to morphy into cancer, but there are always exceptions so please go get tested....

^^No, no, they sent me to a specialist and they took a piece of my cervix (and made me watch that shit on TV- EWW...fuck knows why they think I'd want to see that).

They said that the original test was a falsely higher rating than the actual cells...like the original pap said 'pre cancerous' cells. And I thought 'super', but it was actually less changes than that according to the specialist. So I'm going to see her again this summer for another check up.

BUT they never tested for HPV. They told me to get the vaccine, because there were 'four strains that can do this' and 'unless you're never going to have sex with anyone else for the rest of your life' (they were snotty bitches). So that was the implication. But no one ever said 'this is what kind of HPV you have'.

Maybe the Canadian medical system is different. I get the impression that they just wait and see if your body sheds the cells itself, and they just keep an eye out. I was told if you have a super duper immune system (which I have the opposite, lol), the body can rid itself of the bad cells on its own, even pre-cancer cells.

Lesson learned-- if you're young, drunk, on your period, and fucking BITTER that you can't have babies anyway, saying 'fuck it' for the condom is not the way to go. A guy saying 'oh yeah, I was just tested, I'm fine' means nothing, no matter how long you've dated. I think it sucks that they can just have HPV and not know it. *sigh* Regular paps, and what else can you do, once you've been told this?

Another question-- would anyone who's had the funny cell readings tell future men you sleep with 'btw, I have hpv, and it can't do anything to you, but you could pass it on to another girl'? LIke I have it forever, right? I use condoms now, but it makes me worry.

Yeah the only thing you can do, at least this is what they reccommended to me, is get two paps a year instead of one and make sure that nothing is going on with the cells. And that's true some people's bodies does clear up HPV on its own. I don't know how old you are, but they found the older you are when you get it the better of your chances of it going away on its own...

As to would I tell somebody....Oooo, tricky...My boyfriend knows, and I don't plan on us breaking up anytime soon, so...thankfully I'm off the hook BUT....I don't really know. Honestly, I would if there were going to be no condomns used, but if you are using them, I probably wouldn't. Not saying that's the right thing to do, just saying what I would probably do.

    So...
what does cervical dysplasia feel like? Like if you or your doctor (or whoever) are touching it with your hands; I realize your cervix can't feel anything.

Bullshit you can't. It hurts like hell. The doctor actually argued with me I didn't feel anything because it was my cervix, but I could feel those goddamn scissors cutting my genitals. Asshole.

But having the actual condition? I don't know. Feels like nothing. If I even have it/ had it. Never got a straight answer. Still don't know what to say to my boyfriend, as we still use condoms, and for all I know he gave it to me two years ago the few times we didn't have a condom. Though I implied, and he was all 'I don't understand all these problems girls have'. I have a follow up in a few weeks, and I want to ask straight up 'does this virus do ANYTHING to men, and if so, can you test them for it, and if not, that's sucks'
Looks like you got the same treatment I did.

MINE HURT TOO!!! bastard! I held my fiance's hand and winced everytime that cutting thing took a chunk out of my cervix. That was not fun, especially the cramping afterwards. It sucks we had to go through that hopefully we'll all be healthy now
As for telling partners... I was a bad girl and never told any of my partners, simply because I never had active outbreaks (I have the wart kind*yuck*) and I felt such stigma about being a "dirty girl". I finally told my fiance a while into our relationship, after I had already exposed him. I felt bad but felt he needed the truth because if we were going to stay together he would have to know about possible future wart treatment. He was pissed that I didn't tell him and exposed him. But then he said oh well and forgave me. I should've been honest before sex happened. Still, personally, I would keep it a secret. still a bad girl.

What I meant was that you wouldn't be able to feel the atypical cells via the cervix; the cervix has no nerve endings, does it? I mean, you can feel pressure, so you could feel them cutting pieces out of it, I'm sure, but the cells wouldn't feel like anything. I just meant the way the cells would feel to the touch as opposed to... not by touch.

The cervix definitely has fucking nerve endings.

But I doubt you could feel atypical cells since they're so small/not a physical change you can really 'feel'. it's like feeling you have herpes when you've never gotten an outbreak. You just don't know.

You cant feel the cells themselves but you SURE as hell feel the procedures. I felt my biopsy..hurt like hell and I was cramping for hours after. I have to get my cervix frozen in a week or so to treat the cervical cancerous condition the biopsy came back with and I'm already gearing up for the pain. NOT fun.
