Default The cops just left my house...

OMG. Im still trembling. My daughter was missing. She went to a friends place around 1130 this morning after asking permission. I went over there so we could go to the store. I knock on the door. No answer. I ring the doorbell. No answer. I start POUNDING on the door. No answer. I go to the other 2 neighbors homes who her friends live at and ask if theyve seen her. NO. I ask my neighbor Brian (who works here) if hes seen her. No. I pound on the door AGAIN. No answer. Brian starts pounding on the door and tries to call. Disconnected.

20 minutes later Im on the phone reporting a missing child. Call my dad, mom and husband who all come over. A firetruck pulls up along with a Community Service truck and 3 police cars. They ask me a ton of questions then they go over to the door of the friend and pound - no answer. Cops start searching the neighborhood - along with the firemen.

The cop is asking me if shes run away before and I kept saying she didnt run away! Im feeling like the most horrible person ever and then Im thinking "does he think i have something to do with her being gone?!" And Im crying and its another 30 minutes later of searching and more photos and descriptions and calling all her friends homes and going to every apartment here.

My dad goes back over to the friends home and pounds on the door until the deadbold busts open and breaks the door. She was there and now shes crying when she walks out and sees the cops and firemen and all him.

So shes home now. And weve just had a long discussion and Im searching for child GPS monitors online. If I had one I would have KNOWN she was there and not have had to call the cops.

When she came in I was so scared and relieved and I yelled at her "Where were you?! Why didnt anyone answer the door?!?!?" And then I got reprimanded by the cop. I dont yell at my child, ever. I was just so worried. And she did nothing wrong. She was where she said she would be. I still dont get how she can say "nobody heard the knocking" when it wasnt knocking. My dad BROKE the doorjam. I'll be paying for that to be fixed along with a red light ticket if my dad gets one for running 2 red lights on the way over.

Its just so scary to think your child can be next to you one minute and gone the next. Im still crying even to shes right next to me on the couch watching cartoons.

oof! THAT is the scariest thing ever.

not sure how much i believe that she didn't hear anyone knocking. where were they in the house that they couldn't hear all that?

I've researched the monitors before. some good models out there but i think there's only one that's really super good....trying to remember which one.... but yeah. that sucks.

I think you need to ask why no one answered the knocking, the doorbell AND the phone. That seems just... weird.
What Ive been told is they didnt hear anything because they were upstairs. Someone was playing a videogame and she says she thinks maybe when the doorbell rang it sounded like the game. The whole "we didnt hear it" thing is beyond me. I have the exact same floorplan and townhome and I can hear someone pounding on the door. The phone - tried to call and it was DISCONNECTED! She is no longer allowed IN their home. She is still allowed to play with them but just not to go inside their home.

i'm so glad that she's safe and she wasn't hurt. still...the phone being disconnected and no one hearing the knocking sounds fishy. how well do you know the people that own the house?

In 90/91 when Terminator 2 came out on rental video, I got it and had a friend over. Towards the end, with the helicopters, the cop cars (sirens), etc., it seemed so real. The effects were awesome, we both were complimenting it, that good.

After the scene, the sounds remained, helicopter, sirens, cars speeding quickly, etc.. The cops were chasing a hit and run suspect who drove into our neighborhood.

How old is your daughter if I may ask. The reason I do, is because if she is teen aged is it possible she was doing an activity of illegal nature? I'd be worried as to just what was going on in that house. Something similar happened to me, although my parents didn't call the cops, and they still don't know to this day what happened. I'm to scared to tell them, even though it wasn't my fault.

Were there adults at the friends house? I'm not sure how old your daughter is so I don't know if she is old enough to visit a friend's home when an adult isn't there. If was just kids at home, I can believe they didn't hear the doorbell (although, I would still be a little skeptical).

If there was an adult in the home I would be very skeptical. Also, no cell phone for your daughter? Or do you feel she's too young? I'm not passing judgment on the cell phone thing. I sometimes get a little annoyed when I see very young kids walking around with cell phones, but I also realize they can be very useful tool for parents.

At any rate, I'm glad your child is ok.

Shes 9 (10 in November) There are 2 girls her age (9 and 7) and their babysitter (who was playing on the computer) I didnt know her parents werent home - and that it was a sitter.

She does have a cell phone - that was the first thing the cop asked me. Of course the phone was here on the kitchen counter and not with her. New rule.. anytime she goes ANYWHERE she needs to take it with her. I may get her a newer model with gps tracking.

Had she had a cell phone with gps even if it wasnt on her - like if it was downstairs on the dining table and she was upstairs playing and didnt hear it... at least I could look it up and see that she IS at that house.

I was worried that her friends left and Kaitlyn was out front playing alone and got snatched or something.

    They sure can.

Oh, about an hour after they left the cop called me and said theres an alert in place for my apartment that people live here who 'do not like cops'. I was like and he said theres an alert that 2 males live in my home and they do not like cops. Im like uh, only me, my daughter and husband live here. No 2 males have ever lived here and we certainly dont 'not like cops' or I wouldnt have called you! I said they must have lived here before us.

But it took me back to when he very first showed up he asked when I moved in so I guess he knew there was an alert when he got here. Altho he said hes going to take it off now.

I had no clue they put alerts on addresses like that....

Its more like a fine for wasting their time, money and resources. Non legitimate calls, etc.

(Like the PD here has anything better to do. Maybe chase people going 5 over the speed limit!)

Like we dont pay enough in taxes... if I get a bill or fine I would soooo fight it.

My dad spoke with the firemen and apologized and thanked them for their help and they said calling was the right thing to do so we'll see... the cop was not the nicest tho so who knows....Parent is always the prime suspect - I was relieved when she showed up just fine so I stopped feeling like I was guilty of something even tho I didnt do anything!

Glad your little one is safe...sorry but I don't think you "over-reacted " at all and truat me,if it was THEIR kid, they would have done likewise and yelled at her in relief as well.
I think the GPS phone is a damn good idea,my 10 yr. old grandaughter has one at all times,it's a nasty world out there!
Hug her tight tonight and make sure she knows how much you love her!

but it WAS legit! the phone was disconnected, no one would come to the door, and you couldnt find your daughter. if they tried to say that was a waste of their time they are MEGA assholes! i'd be PISSED if i were you and got a bill!

Exactly. I highly doubt it will happen. Another thing I need to slightly worry about too is CPS (child protection services) - Altho Im not worried because Im a great mom and my kid is well cared for but still. It would be a PITA to deal with even for just a minute.

that's very frightening. I'm glas she was ok.

When my brother and I were kids, we went to a day care. apparently, my mother came to pick us up from day care one day and the door was locked. we were safely inside, but didnt know that the door had got locked and she was outside pounding on the door and freakign out... The cops came and everything, my mother was a mess.
So we were wondering why my mom was late pickign us up and looked out the window to see the cops around the building and shit and the day care workers walked outside to see what the issue was and foudn out the door had been locked ad my mom couldnt get in. we never went back to that daycare center....but I'll never forget the look on her face when me and my brother walked out.
