Does anyone here play Texas Hold'em or Omaha Hi/Low Split ?
Does anyone here play Texas Hold'em or Omaha Hi/Low Split ?

I've been known to do that once in awhile. Only played Hi/Low once, though. Why?

I've played more than my share, but never really got into the online thing. We have a group that plays tournaments regularly and sent 5 guys down to LV to play in WSOP events this year. Started playing Omaha pretty much the first week they allowed it in CA back in the 80s. Still make frequent trips to LV and when I'm not SCing, you'll find me in the poker room.
I don't know our entrant into the main event that well, but my good friend cashed in event 48 today and is playing a couple of mega-satellites before he leaves. If he wins a seat into the big one, a couple of us will be flying down to check it out.

I see WSOP is going to do the Main Event differently this year. They're going to play down to the Final 9, and then wait until November to finish it to build anticipation.
As a fan, I think that's cool, I'm not so sure I'd like it if I were playing. A lot can happen in that three months.
Former SCJ now in rehab.

After the final 9 are determined, they will each receive 9th place money to tide them over for the 4 months . Last year, with 6,300 entries, 9th place paid $525,000. I don't know how many will enter this year, but they have it set up to accommodate up to 12,000. I imagine any non-pros will pay for some intense coaching in the run-up to the final table, possibly altering the outcome if it had, instead, been played out as in previous years.
I'm in a group of like 20 ppl who play twice a month with a $40 buy in. We keep $1000 behind for the world series seat and the other $600 is prize money. The better you finnish at the end of the year in points the more chips you will start with in the game that decides who we send to the WSOP. I figure spending less than $800 bucks I could win a seat to the big show.

A dealer in Montana once commented to me that TV poker was ruining the game.
The point of TV poker is to break the other players, one by one, until you are the only one left.
The point of social poker USED to be to win a couple pots, play every hand intelligently, and leave feeling like you enjoyed the game. Even if I lose all my money, I leave feeling good if I don't think I did anything stupid.
That's what makes me mad. People who don't think before they act. I can play against a good player better than a bad one. The problem is I usually end of giving to much credit to the hands bad players play because I am always cautious. If at all possible, I avoid being in a hand against players who have no clue.

We play every other week, but we don't play hold em. Dealers choice which means we play a lot of freakin wild card games. I prefer Jacks or better - Trips to win.
I prefer Omaha Hi/Lo Split. You will drag in more pots if you have discipline and play only good starting hands.

I play Texas Hold 'Em online sometimes (rarely, actually.. I used to play A LOT) and occasionally I do my friends the service of taking their money, but I haven't played in a long time. I love it, though.

Day one of WSOP is under way.
I can't believe the stinkin soccer thread gets more attention than a poker thread.![]()

Hold Em.

That is a pretty good set up. I am in a group of around 40 who do approximately the same thing but beside the WSOP every 13 weeks we sponser one of ours into AC for a $100+K event.
I've won the seat twice but haven't finished in the money yet. Did well in some side action during though.
Question for you players out there. What was the biggest pot you ever sat in on? A bit more than $18K for me. Bad beat. Guy had one out, a quad 10 on the river and pulled it to beat my aces full. Luckiest SOB alive. Still I left up for the night, but oh what a headache I had.![]()

BTW, while we are on the subject, is it needed to point out the obvious: That it is just possible that if you are willing to judge the worth of someone simply by what you read on a website about them it might say a whole hell of a lot more about you than it says about the person you are judging?

Casino Arizona rake is BS.
I'm a big 'Hold Em, Pot Limit Omaha, and Seven Card Stud player. One day I'll be able to afford the trip to Vegas for the WSOP.

Oh snap, a thread for me! I do. I play a lot. Both Holdem and all versions of Omaha. Emily does too; she is the reason I play poker at all. I happen to love my weekly casino trips; I took Lady Jade with me on the last one and she picked up 1 2 no limit poker pretty easily. She came out ahead.
I play on Full Tilt when at home. In fact, I'm in a tourney right now. LOL.
It's funny, when I play with friends, or friends of my bf, they think I'm gonna suck because I'm a girl... and then I take their money. Most guys at the casino dont think the pretty girl with the low cut shirt who talks a lot can be any good since overall talking at the table usually means you're loose... it's all part of the plan. muhahaha!
Love it!
Making other people think you don't know what you are doing is a great strategy. Then, even when you win big, they think it was just luck.

^ yep! Emily plays the dumb blonde so well, "omigod, I think I won!"
me, I prefer to read the table and go from there, but if me seeming loose (hands shaking purposely etc.) works to reeling in folks who think I got nothin', I will do it repeatedly!
Love it!

Just won a tournament. First place: Four days in AC and a paid in seat at a fairly big money tournie.
I'd prefer skill, and I have a dab, but I could use all the luck I can muster, so if you feel so inclined please wish me some.![]()

^ oooh where were you playing GR? I'm heading to the shore this weekend, but I have feeling we will head on into the poker room (I love the trop's room or caeser's).
Love it!

Trop... that is where I do most of my playing. Though I really like the layout of the card-room in the Borgata. Trop has the best dealers and pit crews.
There were a few dates I could choose from. I've decided end of August, beginning of Sept.
