    Default I started weight watchers

    The other plan i was on is just to restrictive for my lifestyle at this point. I was in a big hurry last time to loose all the weight and this time I really shouldn't have to rush. I would do really good with a super strict diet all week then BLOW it on the weekends and gain most or all the weight back i lost all week.

    Its a vicious cycle and i'm over it. I've been loosing and gaining the same 5 pounds for 3 months now.

    WW is great because i can pretty much have anything i want within my points allowance. This makes the foody in me very happy!
    I would hate on myself so hard core on my other diet and WW is allowing me to eat what i want with in reason so i'm not messing up.
    Its only 17 bucks a month to do it online and the resources available are great.
    I'll keep you all updated on my results. My goal is 2-3 pounds a week.

    I also do cardio 4 times a week for 35 minutes at a moderate to high intensity

    ETA- since i already paid ahead on the genetix program i'm still going to talk to my diet dr every day. He will help encourage me and monitor the WW since i won't be attending meetings.

    I don't get how WW is any different than counting calories. They jsut put it on a different scale. Some time with 1 piont would be something with very little calories and something with the highest points would have the most, no?

    Yes - however WW teaches you about "wise spending" - which is to say, how to fill up on foods that are good fo you. Having 23 points a day seems like an easier number to budget out than 1800 - and a five point cookie makes a huge difference.

    Also it's not just cals, the fat and carbs and whatnot get factored into the points. So it's not - 1800 cals, no more than xx grams of fat, but at least xxgrams of protein, and etc. Also you can earn points by excercising and there are zero point foods.

    It is in essence a way to teach healthy lifestyle habits and about moderation and portion control. It's just eliminating the complicatedness and the good food/bad food trap that so many of us fall into. It also keeps you from being in a rut by not being able to change it up, so it keeps your metabolism up. You can eat whatever you want, including fatty, indulgent foods, which keeps your system "guessing".

    I'm a convert, since I watched my ex-girlfriend go from 321 to 140ish on the plan.

    Okay, yha that's what I was thinking it was. It does make it less daunting for people who don't already know about doing the calorie + protein+ whatever else thing.

    My mom did this for a little while and lost 30 pounds but she hated the meeting and quit because she hates talking to people. So there's an online version now?

    WW is a good plan. My mom did it and lost 15 pounds pretty fast.
    Im also trying to lose about 5 pounds. It always seems like these damn pesky 5 pounds just wont stay away. I lose the weight, and then regain it. Its only 5 pounds but it makes a difference cause it all seems to get stored on my stomach,,,grrr

    I just worked out for an hour
    i NEVER do it that long but i just didn't feel like getting off my elliptical
    I earned an extra 6 points if i want them

    I loved Weight Watchers when I did it like 7 years ago and lost like 40 lbs and kept it off since.

    Yes. it's true you could do it all yourself, if it was really that easy, people would be doing it themselves.

    That extra motivation that WW gave me is what worked. And they teach eating habits that are realistic. It's not a gimmick like no carbs that you can't really stick to forever. It's a balanced diet, where you learn to budget calories (you can have the pizza or ice cream, but not BOTH, and if you have a wedding on Sunday and you know you're going to pig out at the reception, you can bank for that all week.)

    That, and having the support groups and an actual person weighing you every week makes a big difference. You feel like you're being held accountable, which, sometimes is the difference between success and failure. That was the part that worked for me. I need structure.

    1 point is not really equivalent to a certain number of calories. if the food is nutritionally void, it's worth about 50 calories, but if it's got a lot of fiber, it can be like 90 calories. Again, teaching you to make smart choices. Foods with lots of fiber are healthy and make you feel fuller than those that don't.

    These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

    oh, that's the part that sucks about WW. They don't let you join unless you are like 10% of your ideal body weight overweight. IIRC, it was like $100 to start and that included like 9 weeks of meetings. This was awhile ago, so I'm rusty and it may have changed. And it was worth it even though I was so broke back then (obviously before my dancing days.)

    But if you know I lost weight, it must work.

    Saph knows I looooove to eat and snack. I have a hard time finding discipline sometimes.

    hmmm, well i'm more like 8% above my ideal weight, and i'd be happy enough to lose 4%, but i really could use better eating habits so i am seriously considering it...

    I really like Weight Watchers too. I was 140 when I started, which was 10 pounds overweight for me. I lost 14 pounds on it pretty fast and kept it off until I moved and now I'm getting back to my old eating habits. Before I went on it, I always felt bad and would drag throughout the day and didn't realize how unhealthy I was. I also liked it because I could be good all week but if an event came up, I could still eat what I wanted.

    I lost 50 lbs. with WW 6 years ago and have kept it off ever since. It teaches you how to eat healthier and watch your portions. It's really a lifestyle change. I still follow it's guidelines to this day.

    My grandma has been on WW since I was like what, 6yrs old. She's been battling with being overweight that entire time. I dunno what she's doing wrong, but she's NEVER lost the weight.I've been thinking about introducing her to the South Beach Diet..I dunno.
