    Default Baseball

I thought that we had a baseball thread but I couldn't find one, I love baseball, so I'm starting one dammit, put all your baseball rants, raves, comments here.

I'll kick things off with this gem, the Diamondbacks put Catcher Chris Snyder on the disabled list today with a left testicular fracture. Ouch, it hurts to even think about it. On the bright side, he won't need surgery.

Is anybody following the Tampa Bay Rays? They just swept the Red Sox. This is their 11th season, their best record in those 11 seasons was 70-91 in 2004, they've been the definition of ineptitude. Last off season they changed their name from the Devil Rays to the Rays, this year without Devils in their name their record is 52-32 and they are in first place in the AL East. Coincidence?

Does this mean we will see the NJ Reds in the NHL and the Duke Blues in college BB?

Back on topic, it would be so nice to see Tampa win the East. Maybe the Gigantes can win the West if AZ continues to slide. I spent quite a bit of time in AZ in March back in the 90's. Nothing beats a spring training vacation.

Big time ouchie. I saw that game on TV and Snyder was in serious pain after that. Even a cup wasn't enough to prevent that one. I'm glad he doesn't need surgery, is supposed to be back in a few weeks.

Yesterday the D'Backs came back from being down 5-0 in the bottom of the ninth to score six runs with zero outs and win the game. Only the second time since 1974 in MLB that a team has come back in the bottom of the ninth being 5+ down and winning with no outs. Very cool!

Nice pick up by the Brewers today getting CC Sabathia from the Indians. That's a nice top of the rotation they now have in Sabathia and Sheets.

From a Cardinals fan's POV, it sucks.

I was surprised at how well the Reds did against the Yankees. They seemed to over-perfom while the Yankees were sleeping again. If the Reds played like that consistently they would have a lot better standing.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

    Yeah...very cool...GO CREW!!!

We have Sheets and CC now...but....everyone is overlooking the third stud in that rotation. Many Parra...his first full season...he has ace stuff...and he is developing very quickly.

    In his last 9 starts:

    record: 7-0
    IP: 53 1/3
    Hits: 44
    ERA: 2.70

He had two rough outings in this span that accounted for 17 hits and 11 earned runs in a total of 9 innings. The other 7 outings he was pretty much lights out. He is a big time up and comer. You fantasy BB guys may want to keep an eye on him for a pitching pick up if you need one.

Wow...it will be an interesting finish in the NL Central with the Cubs. There is also the possibility that Gallardo may be able to return in September. What a play-off rotation that would be:

    Sheets
    Sabbathia
    Gallardo
    Parra

The Cubs picked up Rich Harden today from the A's, you had to know they would make a deal after the Brewers got Sabathia.

I saw this. Is a good pickup for them as long as Harden can stay healthy. Although a similar statement can be made about Sheets (in regards to health).

I kind of chuckled when Hendry said this was in the works and not a response to the Sabathia deal. Yeah...I am not buying that at all. It may have been in the works, but the Sabathia deal definitely motivated the Cubs to complete the deal.

The NL Central race will be interesting. I probably should not overlook the Cardinals in all this either. They have been winning with mirrors up to this point, but they are starting to get some quality pitchers back. They will also be a factor.

Man am I glad I didn't drive down to Shea last night to see Timmy pitch. He was awful, well, for him. Even that was pretty good.

Of course, the bullpen stunk up the place and made it look a LOT worse than it was.

Life is hard for a Giants Fan.

Did anybody catch the show Josh Hamilton put on in the All Star Home Run Hitting contest? Those were some amazing shots, too bad he choked in the final round, he really deserved to win. All the more amazing is how far he has come after missing 3 seasons due to his heroin addiction. Oh, and 95 RBI by the All Star break, that's just sick.

The all-time record for RBIs is 191, set by Hack Wilson in 1930. That's long been thought untouchable, far tougher to break than the single season home run record but Hamilton has a very outside chance of breaking it. He's an amazing story, he has incredible talent that he's just now harnessing.

Josh Hamilton really did deserve to win!! I know the scoring got reset in the last round, but I was just in AWE watching the first round today!! Holy fuck!! And what about Chris Counsel or whatever his pitching coaches name was...I bet that had to factor into the final round, too. I mean the man had to be tired he's 71!! I can't believe he threw like 54 pitches in the first round! Holy shit!

That was an awesome thing to see and Hamilton was just fabulous. He gets a free lap dance from me any day of the week, not that he'd want it since I think he went really straight edge.

15thand counting. Selig's worst nightmare. Now that the game "means something" the managers may be forced to extend pitchers from other teams. Thankfully Lincecum was not available, but that means one less arm for the NL. Oops it's over now. Hard to believe they are tearing down the house that Ruth built.
