Default Do I have the right to be annoyed?

    Well...either way, I am.

I usually give the DJs a songlist, and occasionally tip them an extra $20 since they play the specific songs I ask for. When I say occasionally, I don't mean everytime I dance, but at least after they've DJed for me 2 or 3 times. From what I've seen, not many people tip the DJ extra, unless they don't want to go on stage again.

Well tonight, I gave the DJ a list of songs and $15 extra since it was all I had to spare at the moment (I usually pay afterwards before I leave)...I was going to give him more later...

He didn't play ONE SONG from my list. I asked him once if he was going to the next time, and he said yeah. Um...no. Then I asked what he was doing (in a very nice way), and he said he'd played all the songs for other people. Um, no. At least 1/2 the songs on the list were not played the whole night. WTF. Even if I never tipped him extra before, it's still his job to play stuff girls like...but hell, I tip him extra and he can't even play 1 fucking song on my list??

    I'd be annoyed.

BUUUUUTT...In many clubs that I have worked in, you can tell the DJ what type of music you like to dance to and he has the final say on what he plays. So, while I would be pissed, there's really nothing you can do about it except not tip extra--and especially if your songs you really wanted were not played.

Lucky(or unlucky) for me my DJ has been tryin to get me in bed with him for 2 years and he plays whatever I want...

I'd be irritated. Next time dont tip first. You tip for a job well done - not for a job you're hoping will be well done in the future. Make sense?

Id go to him before you start and request certain songs. If he plays them id tip him really well. If he doesnt i would only tip a minimal amount.
Id be really annoyed but unfortunately theres not much you can do.
And pissing off a DJ is NOT a good idea.

I'd be more then annoyed...I'd be PISSED.
I worked with one DJ who screwed up my music ROYALLY. I gave hima CD and said anything on that was fine ..or even anything LIKE what was on there(hard rock...which the owner prefers played there anyway). REALLY easy. I joked that as long as he didnt play me techno or Britney Spears we'd be ok. He joked back so i KNOW he didnt misunderstand me.

Then he proceeded to play me techno. After the first set I said WTF? He claimed to have forgotten(the conversation was 3 songs before I went up). I said ok...just dont do it again...I cannot dance to that.

    He did it again.

I told him do not EVER play me anything that isnt on my CD.

    Did it again.

I told him to fuck off and that I would never tip him...not even the minimum.

Thankfully the manager was a friend of mine and backed me up.

The DJ kissed my ass and apologized the next shift. Never got it wrong again.

CK--I totally remember you posting this story before and thinking, "Typical powertripping DJ." I hate guys like that. Good on you that you were close with the manager!

yeah, thankfully. I would have left the club rather then give him one cent...it would have KILLED me to in any way reward that behavior.

He didnt last long...pissed off too many people..not just dancers, but he was rude to bouncers, managers and would constantly be late or call off without so much as apologizing to the other DJ,who was AWESOME and was frequently forced to work extra(when he had another job to be at too!) because DJ Douche couldnt be bothered to show up.

We were all happy when he left.

I'd be annoyed. Like someone else said, in the future I'd tip afterwards when he actually played the songs.

I never get the kind of music I like because they don't play it there. One DJ "claims" to know metal and plays Disturbed and Korn. Not metal.

You totally have the right to be annoyed, but realize that the situation can be MUCH worse.
