Default If you could design your fantasy dream stage...

...what would it look like? Cool features? Velvet curtains? Two-tiered rack? Monkey bars? Runway? Lights? My dream is to open up a bad-ass bar/club with my hubby and make it kind of vintage-burlesque-pin up style, where the dancers are goddesses and do cool themed sets with a kick-ass stage...

My dream stage would definitely have at least one pole. I totally hate stages without a pole, even though I'm not much of a pole dancer, I like having something to lean on/dance around. I feel ungrounded without it. Monkeybars and other kinds of infrastructure are wonderful too. They let us dancers get creative and show off our bodies in new beautiful ways.

Next we need some decent smoke machines. Not to smoke the place out like a hornet's next, but it makes the lights look better and if you can get a little layer of smoke to lie on the stage, and dance through it, it looks soooooo cool.

Lights are a given. I worked at one place that had some unique lighting - you know how disco floors light up with different colored tiles? The wall directly behind the stage was done like that. Sometimes the tiles would flash or scroll different colors, other times they'd all go one solid color, or blink, all to the beat of the music. The silhouette effect was unbeatable. It made every girl look fantastic. I loved it. It really wasn't overly distracting.

    A good spotlight too, maybe.

Swings(http://img266.echo.cx/img266/7760/sa...y20down8am.jpg) would be great, and ropes! Also wind machine technology for performances with flowing costumes. Moveable mirror-walls like this: http://members.aol.com/PJaySin/mil2.jpg
and light technique that could reflect the shadow of the dancer behind her as big as possible.

Tell me when can I audition there?

My dream stage would be convertible.... so the dancer could pick and choose which kind of performance she wanted. There would be a big huge tall grippy pole that could be either stationary or spinning. The dancing surface would not be wood!! I've danced on stages that were wood and after awhile they wear down and snag on your nylons and scratch your hands... linoleum is better. The tip rail would a big padded surface to kneel on so our knees don't get hurt. The dancing surface would be only about 6 inches lower than the tip rail, so that you can see as much of our body as possible, but the dollars stay on the stage. There would be awesome lights (like crazy horse in paris!), and a really good sound system. There would also be optional hoops and swings to play around on... and big red velvet curtains. It would have a wide main stage with the velvet curtains, with a short runway that goes out to a circular stage that has the pole.

As long as it wasn't made of glass or tile, I'd be ok. So anything but that and I'm pretty happy. Oh, and if there are stairs to get on the stage have something for me to hold on to while getting up there. I'm clumsy and I hate falling up or down a flight of stairs.

Seconding the no-glass or tile thing. My current club has a stage made of some sort of plastic/polymer. It gives a bit if you land hard on your knees. I love it.

I see you're in Portland, so my dream would be a rack filled with customers tipping insanely well, LOL.

There is some kind of awesome surfacing they make; it's sort of rubberized but you can both spin and get traction on it, and it's very easy on the knees when you do floorwork. I would so prefer that or a nice floating wood floor to the crap I've had to dance on (linoleum, clear plastic sheeting, floor tile, badly maintained wood).

I vote for monkey bars and trapeze! I'll sew the curtains for you and help decorate if this actually happens, by the way.

I like stages with bomb ass lighting and mirrors. And I really want a pole, even though I don't do that much on it. Also, I worked at a club with wooden floors on the stages and I HATED it. My knees looked like shit after doing floor work, I don't know why they weren't laquered or something! Also, I hate tiny stages. And I like them to be tall, not down by the floor. I want to have my hips at face-level to most people. That same club where the stages were wooden, they were also like a foot off the ground. I didn't like it.

It would definitely have "monkey bars" because I learned a ton of cool tricks on them working at spearmint and have never found another club with them so I can't use them

I love my current club's first stage. There is a spiral staircase coming down from the dressing room to the first stage, which has two poles. The surface is some sort of soft plastic.

I would change up the second and third stages though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLOORecFVwc <-- that's my club featured on LOST, but our first stage is not connected to the second stage, which is probably what I would change up. I love runways - gives a great running start for some awesome polework.

I would also change up the table dances and have the monkey bars we have over the tables be more of a swing.

Stairs with a high enough railing to play on, a nice chaise lounge of some sort, swings, red velvet curtains, I love lots of things to play on!

Oh I didn't even think of the entrance. My very first club had a curtain from 'backstage' which was the hallway to the office and dressing room, and also a side entrance to the DJ booth. I liked it that way. Every other club where I worked you have to walk up to the stage from the floor. Not a big deal, but it was fun to come out of a curtain. Maybe some cool glow in the dark beads or something...

One static pole one spinning, silks, mirrors, LOTS of the fans in the floors. A section of padded stage for floor work.

NO actual rail around the stage.

I also like the bubble columns we have, but I'd have lots of plastic sea horses and fish and stuff in there just because it's cute.

A floor that is attractive but made of the rubbery, soft surface that also manages to be hard. Parts of my gym have it, and I don't know what it's called. It's heaven on the feet and knees.

    Definitely *spinning*poles and a runway.

A chain coming down with a hoop attached to it at chest-level. There are spins and ways of positioning from a chain hanging down, and people can get creative with a hoop.

A feature from my club: a tip walk around the stage, buttressed by a bar, so that customers cannot easily reach the stage, if at all. It gives the dancers another layer of protection and creates an incentive for private LDs if they want more closeness.

Highwire, also a feature of the club where I worked.

A high stage relative to the customers' eye level.

    Dream stage?

    1. Stage that is directly accessible from the dressing room. I always hated stopping at the bottom of the steps to put my outfit on at the end of my stage set. Disappearing into a dressing room immediately after a stage set always seemed more classy.

    2. At least one pole. Would also really love if the pole could have a toe kick to switch it from spinning to stationary. Different tricks look better on a spinning pole than they do on a stationary pole and vice versa.

    3. Light show. Whether it is controlled by a talented DJ or automated by a computer, having the lighting match the mood of the song/ dance goes a really long way in creating an amazing atmosphere. Think of the song "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. Now imagine a dancer performing to that song under a steady glow of stage lighting. Then think about how that same performance would look if the lighting changed with the highs and lows of the song? Also, being able to make the stage go dark while the dancer is gathering her tips and costume at the end of the set sends a visual cue to everyone in the room, as well.

    4. Running lights marking the edge of the stage. Think of movie theaters that have the lights on the floor so you don't trip. Same thing. Same reason.

    5. Stage height should be about 25-40" off the floor. This is comfortable seating height for the customer. Go 25-30" if you are using regular dining-style chairs. Get the stage to 40" if you are using bar height chairs.

    6. Have a lip or edge to the stage. Sometimes called a tip rail. It is basically a very small pony wall around the stage. This prevents the girls from kicking over drinks accidentally. It also provides a physical barrier between the customers and the dancers. 10" should be plenty. Less than 8" would be a trip hazard for the dancers.

    7. Have a place that the front row customers can place their drinks. A small bar counter of about 10" should be plenty for them to tuck their legs under and support their drinks/ keys/ money etc.

    8. Runway stages work best. Make sure it is wide enough, though. Narrow runway stages are a bit nerve wracking (fear of falling off). 15X20 ft would be my dream stage. Huge, I know. But several girls can dance on it at the same time w/o crashing into each other.

    9. Have a wall of flat panel video screens behind the stage. Allow the dancer to pick a digital backdrop for her stage set. (Fish tank for a mermaid set, Fireplace for a bearskin rug show, Snowy mountains for snow bunny show etc). I recommend a big piece of Plexiglas to protect the video screens from objects flying through the air accidentally. You could have default images that could be used if no backdrop is selected by the dancer ie; Club logo, bar specials, etc. (I know I'm really dreaming here. This would likely run $100K, but wouldn't it just be awesome to pick your own backdrop? )

    10. Access to the stage from the ceiling. Either by sliding down the pole or a hydraulically controlled platform that slowly drops from the ceiling in a haze of stage mist. The dancers could exit the sage by that route, too.

    11. Monkey bars would be cool too. The clubs that I've worked at that had them were awesome. They were placed along the edges of the stage at about the 7' level and were graspable by most dancers. There should be enough clearance that the dancer could use the monkey bars to do inverts or chin ups etc. I've bonked my head on the ceiling enough times to know better than to do chin ups on some club's monkey bars.

    12. Use a tried and true surfacing material. There are plenty out there that are designed specifically for dancing/ strip clubs. Laminate flooring (Pergo) and vinyl flooring are the worst for slip hazard. Tile is dangerous (grout lines). Concrete isn't too bad, but is very expensive as a stage surface. Definitely talk to your design engineer about the right surfacing material for your stage. One lawsuit from an injured dancer or patron can make the extra expense of good flooring totally worth it!

Good luck with your new club! Sounds like fun.

I love the stage and lightening effects on the that game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". First time I saw that show I thought to myslef that would be a kick a$$ club stage. Just add a pole or two. Maybe one spinny and one static.

Also similar to what Paris mentioned in her #10, I think another cool effect that would be nice is a stage center that could raise and lower to and from the dressingroom below with the dancer on it at the start and finish of the set.

Well, first off it wouldn't have any steps to go down to get to it so girls don't have to worry about busting their ass. Next it would have some nice velvet curtains at the back. To enter the stage the girls would go through a door behind the dj booth and through that door would be a hallway. The hallway would led to the stage. The dressing room would be a separate room off the hallway and could only be entered via a secret code.

The stage itself would have a back drop of course then a small horizontal stage with a wide long runway branching out of it at which patrons could sit. At the end of the runway would be a circular stage with a pole that moves. I once worked at a club that had a small vented area where air came out from below the stage to blow the girls hair or up her dress or just for a nice cool off, that was pretty neat, I would add something like that along the runway. Also the stage would have black lights which tend to make almost any girl look tan as well as hide flaws.

On the sides of the stages would be decent chairs for the men to sit at but not too comfortable. The chair has a sensor that detects each time you reach for your wallet to grab money. After 15 minutes of not grabbing your wallet or tipping a brief but sharp electric shock is given to the sleepy or loser patron to remind him of where he is. After 30 minutes of being shocked twice and not tipping at all the chair automatically ejects you out the front door.

I would love a club thats surrounded by an aquarium.

A runway stage with foutains that shot up to the music beat. And REALLY tall, spinning poles. And hot-tub VIPs. I would call it Neptune's and have a cartoon merman logo holding a very phallic trident.

And as long as I'm at it, I'd like a pony.
