Bus-ted: Cops halt brothel on wheels

MIAMI BEACH - Sure, $40 sounds a bit steep for bus fare. But the ride, police said, included an open bar and female passengers offering lap dances and other sexual favors.

The sleek black "brothel bus" was cruising along Collins Avenue early Sunday morning when three of the women on board got the attention of three men who turned out to be undercover officers, Miami Beach police said. The officers each handed over $40 to board, then paid $20 for lap dances, $125 to get into the curtained-off VIP section in the back and $100 for various sex acts.

But before their clothes could come off, their badges came out and the party was over, police said.

"It was pretty brazen," said police spokesman Detective Juan Sanchez, noting the officers got on the bus just two blocks from the nearest police station.

Among those arrested was Christine Enyoniam Afi Morteh, 29, who gave police a Miramar address. The bus was registered at the same address, on the 2400 block of East Preserve Way.

Police said Morteh served one officer vodka with cranberry juice and offered oral sex in exchange for $100. She later told police she owned the bus, according to an arrest affidavit.

Two other women were arrested on prostitution charges, one of whom is accused of enticing an officer to the VIP area with the promise: "You'll get your money worth." No other customers were on the bus.

Clyde Scott, who was the driver and the only man on the bus who was not a police officer, was also arrested. Scott, who gave a Pembroke Pines address, was charged with transporting for the purpose of prostitution and possession of a controlled substance after police said they found six Viagra pills on him.

Scott, Morteh and the four other women on the bus were charged with violating a public dance hall ordinance because of the dances offered and performed on the vehicle.

Morteh was released from jail Tuesday after posting $7,000 bond. She is to be arraigned July 14.

Police said they also found $2,028 in cash on the bus.

Neighbors described seeing the bus outside the Pembroke Pines address listed by Scott and at a Publix near Morteh's Miramar address.

Crystal Ortega, who manages the Pembroke Shores community for Century Management Service, said she had received complaints about the bus.

"I was really shocked," said Ortega of her reaction when she heard police are saying the bus was a mobile brothel. "I never believed that something like that could go on in our neighborhood."

LOL..is this the same bus that was at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago? anyway, how short-sighted of the city. a massive roll out of this program could change the face of public transportation and save the enviornment by reducing the carbon foot print of automobiles.
